He makes his home out of a cardboard box,
with a smile glued to his face that he gives out to anyone,
anyone that passes by.
He spends his days scouring the streets for forgotten change,
and yet turns around and gives it away at the sight of a little girl,
a little girl who's lost her balloon and wants to buy another.
He spends his nights curled up in a ball,
a tattered blanket his only companion on the cold and lonely nights,
but doesn't hesitant to give it away to the freezing homeless woman,
the same woman that spit at him every time she passed him,
and yet found herself without a job and home months later.
When that same old man passes away years later,
every person that has passed by that little street corner comes to his funeral,
even the homeless woman that found the strength,
found the strength to get back up off her feet,
and the little girl he gave his spare change to.
He'll never know it,
but that homeless man with the million dollar smile has changed lives,
and on his tombstone, it simply reads,
'An Earthbound Angel.'

I listened to Pink's 'Mr. President' while writing this. I almost cried.

I think that while this could have been more poetically written, this piece was beautiful. It was more prose than anything else, but absolutely fantastic prose. The person you described was conveyed perfectly, someone we grew to love and know in few words. Excellent job.

The grand in the hotel rings with broken tunes; the guests frown; the concierge winces. But the blue-hatted boy is happy and braver than they.
