Socrates: An Epic Poem

(Well, here goes. My first writing post...)

“The unexamined life is not worth living”, stated Socrates at his deathbed.
Only a few who were inspired could understand his way of thought.
Faithful Socrates was more than an everyday person.
And equally well-known Plato, a student of his, was honestly taught.

Determined Socrates wandered the streets, seeking his goals.
Philosophy wasn't just a hobby; it was his way of life and desire.
He wanted people to “Know Thyself”.
Socrates made people's reasoning’s burn up like fire.

He wanted to explore truth and live justly,
Let people think for themselves,
And allow ideas to be formed by asking questions.
Socrates' thoughts were later wrote down and put on bookshelves.

Courageous Socrates continued, no matter enemy or leader.
He taught, inspired, and sacrificed himself to death.
He was truly a powerful and adventurous person.
He never gave up, not even during his last breath.

Athenian trials were held about Socrates' conviction.
Innocent Socrates was ordered guilty.
A man of great courage and intelligence was accused of “corrupting the youth”.
Socrates was lead to prison awaiting his trial bravely.

Socrates was forced to pick between exile or death.
“If the punishment was just, I would be celebrated as a hero”, he said.
By refusing to stop philosophizing, Socrates drank the poisonous hemlock.
“The unexamined life is not worth living”, stated Socrates at his deathbed.

Fantastic piece to start off on and great all on its own.
Socrates was a great philosopher and more then just a man with ideas, he was courageous!
He knew all too well that the easiest well to make enemies is this: try to change something.
And still he went on spreading his ideas and changing them into lifestyles until his untimely demise.
Again I say great work and hope to see more from ya!

I like that this poem focuses on the history side of things I learned a lot from it. Keep up the good work!
