I found this buried in my documents . . . it's a little ranty to me, but eh. Once again, I have little I can do with it.

Innocence--most commonly associated with ignorance, but only for those who fail to grasp the true concept of it. Innocence is the presence of light and hope; it is the pure ability to dream. The innocent have a freedom upon their souls--they don't run or draw or sing or dance because they're good at it, but instead because they feel like it. They spend every day as they envision it to be. Speak their minds. Live their own adventures. They have full belief in all their dreams; they need not doubt that they will come true. There's no reason they won't have that book published or perform on a stage before thousands of fans or participate in the Olympics. It's perfectly possible, and so they don't have any distractions from their road to their dreams--they try their best; they give their all.
Innocence is a power.
Many think of it as a blind fold against the real world; something all of us must one day let go of. They're all wrong. They consider accepting the "real world" as the ticket to growing up.
But if they learned not to accept the "real world" as it is, they could make a change in it.
It's all hopeless. That is the summary of their understandings. No matter what, it's hopeless. The lost puppy on the street will freeze to death tonight--even though you have a warm home, plenty of room, food, and you just walked past it--because you know that there are thousands of animals with the same fate that very second. You don't care if you can lessen that number by one. It's pointless, isn't it? Just like the poor kid being bullied at school. It isn't as if teachers don't see it--but why help when it happens to many others every day? She won't learn if you solve it for her, you remind yourself.
You say it's hopeless, pointless, impossible. But the truth is, you turn a blind eye because it's bothersome to try.
When we were young children, we hated the thought of some stupid girl or some stupid boy trying to put their lips on you--or try to grab your hand for that matter. We were screaming about cooties and germs until that stupid boy said "you're beautiful" or that stupid girl said "you're brave." And meant it. Back when they said those things because they really thought so--back when they didn't have any subliminal motive controlling their actions, and they just wanted to be near you. Back when they never talked to you like your heart was up for sale.
Now you don't care how genuine they are, do you? Now you don't care so much about being near them as you do getting what you want from them. Anyone is open to your affections--because the world says you can't do any better. The world says "that's the way boys are" and "that's what girls want." And we accept; no matter how twisted it really is, no matter how fake it makes everyone. It's the way of the world, isn't it? There's nothing you can do to help it; you might as well just follow the world.
You say that it's the way of the world, but it's the way you let the world be since you let go of your standards. You decided you weren't good enough for true love anymore.
Just like your dreams, right? You decided you weren't good enough anymore. You decided that no matter how hard you tried, there would always be someone better or something in your way. You let it go for something easier, simpler.
You let your drive die, your desires die, your dream die. Because someone told you in mid-laugh to grow up and accept the real world. And you stopped laughing.
And you were a fool.
We were all born innocent, untainted; because innocence makes us strong. Unlike ignorance, innocence allows us to see what happens around us without falling prey to it--so that we can change it instead of blending into it. Innocence steers us in the path of the stars, the path to our dreams, the path to the healing of the "real" world.
So tell me why so many people want to get rid of it? Tell me why do many people let poison seep into their veins--and tell themselves it's what they wanted?
Don't talk to me like a child; don't speak to me in a condescending tone. Don't tell me "that's the way it is" because I never asked you. And you're about to watch me change "the way it is" right before your eyes.
