What is earth like?

An old man died after many years
All the world’s eyes were red with tears
And while the man was at the pearly gates
Catching up with his former friends and mates
He saw the spirit of a child about to enter earth
Twenty-five minutes from now was scheduled for his birth
The child in a quivering voice asked the man what life on earth was like
The old man wasn’t quite sure how to answer such a little tike
Believing honesty the best policy
Couldn’t tell him any fallacy
So he answered him like this
With his voice somewhat gruff
He frankly said “life is tough”
“Life is full of pain” he said
“And life is full shame” he said
At that he slightly bowed his head
But seeing the fear in the child’s face
He told him about god’s loving grace
Despair not little child
Life can be tender and life can be mild
Its true life can be scary
And goes our way very rarely
But keep faith when times are bad
And smile when you want to be mad
Because in the end you will notice
That our father in heaven wrote this
Grinning the child spirit
Said he no longer feared
And wouldn’t give fear any more bother
Because he trusted in the Holy Father

This poem is pretty good. I will suggest that you work on the flow, and the length of the lines. The different line lengths missed up the flow and caused it to be a little unsteady. If you did that on purpose way to go if not you might want to think about rewording it. Also I would recommend you trying a free verse poem instead of one with a rhyme scheme, because a few of your rhymes seemed a little stressed and didn't flow well together.
Your poem was very deep, and I enjoyed it. I would love it if you continued writing poetry, and work at it. I think you could write even better and more beautiful poetry than this beautiful poem. I hope my advice helps. (:

A good concept, but you have a lot to improve on this.

Some tips to help you:

1) Punctuation
Poems, like normal prose, do need punctuation. In fact, it helps the poem flow better.

2) The "Show, Not Tell" concept
A full, clear explanation by GryphonFledgling here: http://www.youngwriterssociety.com/blog.php?u=5702&b=43614

3) Read more poems. By reading the work of other authors, you can get an idea of how poetry is written (the use of particular words and expressions, the poem structure, etc.), and even find your own unique style in writing.
