With Arms Around the Engine (My Biggest Project So Far)

An older drawing. This drawing still took me a long time even on today's standards. This was pretty much the only drawing I did along with maybe two others over the summer.

Wow.

Not only is the actual subject a wildly creative idea and insanely impressive, but the obvious work and detailing is just...well, wow. No doubt you're one of the best (if not THE best) artists on YWS, and really I honestly don't have anything to critique. I like your style. Oh, and the signature too - really cool.
Anyway, this has been a lowsy review considering I didn't exactly give any advice, but here's a tip for you - keep drawing. Seriously.

Story is right. There are no visible flaws in this piece or any of your others.
The detail is impecable in ever inch of the picture and it definitely shows how talented you are.

And because I don't really have much to say, I will mention that I think Nate was looking for new pictures for the featured works deal on the front page. Aw, yes, here's the link. I'm sure he would love to use work as talented as yours on the homepage. I mean it's just a suggestion but it's worth a thought.

Holy chips and queso.

This is so.... intricate. Like, I can see little inclines and declines in the surfaces, and the patterns on even the tiniest parts. It's so incredibly detailed... I have no better term for it. I think the whole black and white thing worked for it too, like color would do it no great justice. And... just.... wow. Woooow. Please, dear God, keep drawing for as long as you can. You're an incredible (and incredibly creative) artist.

It's great how your composition leads the eye around the picture, swirling around 'the engine'. This is such an imaginative piece, well done!

Really, I've never been more impressed by a piece of art. I think this is totally awesome. I could see it on a book cover, in fact. I don't have any complaints...this is wonderful.

So...wow. This is awesome. Haha, I love how you've blurred the lines to create a seamless effect; I can't really tell where one ends and the other begins. Great work.

I like how there are teeth and horns and...is that a hand? It is! But yeah, I love how these things personify what you are trying to convey, how, when I look at it from a different angle, I see something else completely. A tree, a door in a tree, an eye, perhaps, a tiny face...It goes on and on.

The only thing that took away from this as a whole, in my opinion, was the bottom right-hand corner. Everywhere else you have this mass of abstract detail, and then it all seems to fall away into a blurry gray...smudge. I don't know if you would ever edit this--I know I wouldn't, if I were you--but if you did, that's the only thing that I think could use work.

This is insanely impressive, I love everything bout it. The drawing shows just how long hours you spent on it. The meaning behind just blows my mind because I wouldn't have seen it that way. I really like its meaning it fits the drawing.
The drawing, omg, the shading is so good. Every line you put into this drawing is exquisite.

This is genius.

Not only is the actual art genius, the idea behind the art is genius, which I can appreciate even more than the artwork itself. Although, that's obviously important. I love the abstract nature of this. It's left up to interpretation what you're actually looking at, but the idea is still clear.

This is absolutely beautiful. I cannot imagine how much time this must have taken you. I really like how you made it look like a gnarled tree monster. The door into it reminded me of the Keebler elves, which I thought was funny since this isn't exactly a rainbow and unicorn type of drawing. However, I have to agree with Ed on this, I do not see an "engine". I kept looking, thinking it was one of those illusions where you can see both a beautiful woman and an old lady, but I didn't see the engine. Also, I noticed that the upper hand looks like it is part of the tree, like the skin is made of bark. (Love it!) But the lower hand just looks like it belongs to a zombie, with undead flesh falling off. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not a talented artist like you, so do with it what you like. Good work and like everyone else has already stated, keep drawing!

I am so glad I reviewed your other piece of work or you may not have PM'd me and told me about this. This is truely brilliant. The detail is just...wow! I could stare at the for ages and not get bored because of the detail.

I have no advice to give except that which has been given many times before. Keep drawing and for goodness sake don't stop!

This is indeed a beautiful piece. I love the intricacy, especially in the upper lefthand side. I hope you don't mind if I remark on a few things? With the understanding, of course, that I am very impressed with your technical skill.

It feels a little unbalanced, to me. I was looking for a focal point, and although I was drawn to the door (?) approximately in the middle of the piece, I didn't get the motion that I was looking for. I had a definite starting point (upper left), and the hand at the bottom draws the eye downward very well, but the rest felt a little scattered. It was also maybe a little bit unbalanced, perhaps, with there being more activity nearer to the top.

Honestly, though, this is skillfully done! Congratulations!
