Chapter 2
The hallways filled with kids as Marissa and I started walking to gym. It was a long walk, and we only had a short amount of time, so we always speed walk there. We have to walk from the music wing to the physical education wing. There are two more wings in between those two, the Math/Science wing and Social Studies/English wing. I was use to speed walking throughout my school because my classes were all spread out. After gym I have to jog to my locker in the Math/Science wing upstairs, and then run downstairs to the Social Studies/English wing. Then after English I have to run upstairs and head to the Math/Science wing for Math. That was pretty much my whole schedule, running around to different wings in the matter of four minutes.
“Oh my god, I’m in love with this kid.”Marissa said to me. Her blue-green eyes shined as she said this. I felt a feel of joy for her. She hasn’t dated anyone in a long time, and usually all the guys she goes for, end up falling for me. Her just telling me she is in love with a guy was a big step, because ever since her huge crush, Nathaniel Cabot, ended up liking me and asking me out she’s never been the same with me. She rarely let’s me meet the guys she likes, or tells me that she does like a guy.
“Aw, that’s adorable! Who’s the lucky guy?” I asked, while wiggling my eyebrows. She laughed at me.
“Well, he doesn’t really know me…” She answered, as she fidgeted with her small chubby fingers.
“Wait, he either knows you or he doesn’t, Marissa.” I laughed slightly as I said this.
“Okay, well, he doesn’t know me.”
“What’s his name?”
“I don’t know…”
“Oh god, Marissa, so you basically don’t know him and think he is hot?” I asked, laughing.
“No, Emily, you do not understand. He isn’t hot, he is absolutely gorgeous. He is…uh!” She said. I didn’t laugh this time, because I knew she wasn’t trying to be funny or a regular teenage girl. When she used my full name, she was always completely serious.
“Well, how’d you see him?”
“He’s has gym the same period we do. The day you were absent the high school class had class outside right near where we were playing softball. They had to run a lap around the field and I saw him running and nearly got killed by the softball. It was like love at first sight for me.” She explained.
The thing about Marissa is that she is a complete drama queen. She blows up over the smallest things and what she thinks she feels, she really doesn’t. She exaggerates a lot of her feelings too. Her saying, ‘It was like love at first sight for me’ is an over statement. Knowing her, she really isn’t in love; she is just lusting over this guy because he happens to be really good looking.
“Oh, and Emily, he’s mine.” Marissa said, with a flip of her ginger hair. We finally arrived at the gym just before the bell rang. We changed into our gym clothes and went outside. It was cold; I was stupid enough to wear shorts and a baggy long t-shirt. I always get cold easily. My doctor said I didn’t have enough iron in my blood since I’m anemic. He said I have to take iron supplements, but because I am young and my body isn’t fully developed I shouldn’t take them till I turn 16.
“Marissa…?” I questioned. She came up behind me and hugged me. She knew whenever I said her name that way that I was cold and needed her to warm me up. Marissa was always warm, even in -9 degree weather.
“It looks like you don’t have pants on since your t-shirt covers your shorts.” She said, laughing.
“I hope the high school class comes out today. I want to see this lover boy of yours.” Just as I said that, the locker room doors opened up and out came the high school class. They filed up near the softball field. Marissa and I looked at them quickly, and kept walking. We walked past them and some of the high school guys hollered at me as we passed by.
“Hey, cutie, why don’t you come over here?” One of them yelled at me and started to walk over to me.
“Why? You want to tap this?” I said. By know Marissa and I had stopped walking. I pointed at my body as I said that.
“Yeah, when can I call you to plan it?”
“Oh, anytime, honey. Look me up in the white pages under rejected.” I smiled and Marissa and I started walking again. All of the high school guys ohed in unison.
“Damn, she’s hot for an eighth grader.” One of the guys said.
“Dude, you’re in tenth grade.” Another guy said, to the other one.
“So what? She’s hot. Her body is amazing! It would be a different story if I said that about her ginger friend, she on the other hand, isn’t so hot.” The first guy said. I turned around and got really mad. Marissa was now tearing because of what that guy said. Marissa stayed back as I walked over and straight up to him.
“Hm, you know you shouldn’t really talk about my friend that way because you aren’t that pretty either.” I said, while smiling at him. His face went blank, and then switched to anger.
“You bitch.” He said, between gritted teeth. All the guys were now crowed around us.
“Matt, calm down.” His friend said to him.
“You know, it’s better than being called a Matt, because that’s way worse than being a bitch.” I countered. Everyone was now ohing.
“You wanna say that again?” He asked, getting closer to me.
“Yes, I would be glad to. I’ll say it so you can clearly understand it too. It. Is. Better. Than. Being. Called. A. Matt. Because. That’s. Way. Worse. Than. Being. A. Bitch.” I said, speaking to him as if he was a five year old. Everyone laughed. He grabbed me by my shirt. Everyone got quiet now.
“You scared now?” He asked his fist ready to punch.
“Nope, not at all.” With this said I kicked him right in his. He fell to the floor and everyone crowed around him. I started walking away and Marissa was smiling.
“Thank you!” She yelled, as she hugged me.
“Shows him not to talk bad about my friend.”
“Miss. Bell! Principal’s office, now! That includes you too, Matthew!” My gym teacher, Ms. Lyons, yelled. She grabbed us by the arm and pulled to the locker room doors. I turned around and saw Marissa jumping up and down pointing at a guy. I guessed that was the guy she was talking about before. He turned his head slightly, he looked familiar, but I was too far away to see his face clearly. I was already inside by the time I could make out his face.

maybe a little to far but what can i say hypocrisy is not a mature thing for a critic
