To Live In Harmony
A Virtual Villagers Story
A Virtual Villagers Story
You Can Join Even If You Have Played None Of The “Virtual Villagers” Games
Also, if you are uncomfortable writing about deities, then I’m warning you. This could have a good deal of reference to the “Great Guiding Hand” (Remember that from V.V. 3? The festival?), even prayer. If this makes you uncomfortable or if your faith doesn’t allow you to partake in things like this, for your own good, I would suggest you not join. I have no idea how this will turn out, and there is a good chance it could include what I stated before.
Basic Idea – This is Virtual Villagers from the villagers’ perspective. It’s not going to be like a video game; I want it to be realistic. So you have emotions and thoughts and personalities, you get married instead of being able to reach a population of 90 with only one guy, you don’t go to work mindlessly, there’s both day and night, etc., etc. Make sense? If Virtual Villagers was real, then this would be from the views of those real villagers.
Prologue:
“Listen! Oki, make them listen!”
A well-built man raised his staff above his head. In seconds the crowd’s chattering died down to the point where you could hear the waves beating against the beach. A little girl in a cheerful red and yellow gown stood above them all on a platform. The eyes of the fifty-plus crowd turned to her instantly and she gave a tiny squeal. If Grandfather hadn’t died she could have waited a few years to take his place. If only. Clearing her throat she continued, trying to sound as chiefly as she could.
“Brothers and sisters,” she began, “almost a century ago our ancestors came to this corner of Isola, and directed by the Guiding Hand, we have thrived and prospered. But just last night, as she slept, the Oracle was visited in a vision. She was told of a new corner filled with discord. There, the balances of nature have been disrupted, with the flora and fauna nearly destroying each other. The Oracle believes it is a sign from the Guiding Hand that we must go there to bring healing and harmony.
“I believe her, and after careful consideration with my advisors, I have decided that it is the will of the Guiding Hand that we send out a party to this new corner. With them we will send the knowledge of our histories and the hopes of our future. We will let the Guiding Hand choose who will go. If you are chosen, you have until tomorrow morning to wish your families goodbye. Know that you may never return.”
After that was silence from everyone. The sick didn’t cough, the babies didn’t cry. There was only an anxious silence. But slowly, circles of white light began to grow around the feet of seven people. As the circles grew thicker and brighter, thick clouds started to form in the once clear night sky, making the only lights the seven rings and the village fire.
A strong wind picked up. The fire blew out, and the rings became even brighter, as they always did in the presence of the Guiding Hand. The wind blew logs from the woodpile down to the beach, but felt like only a gentle breeze to the villagers. It tore a mast off one of the fishing boats and laid it among the wood.
Soon the gale had gathered all the materials necessary for their departure boat. Everyone knew that they had made the right choice.
To Start Off:
We start off on the morning of out departure. We know from the stories of the elders that the Guiding Hand always uses a violent storm to take us to our new home, so we are told to bunker down and hang on tight.
After that, we can skim the storm and get to the shipwreck, then start to live. I’m thinking that there should be three NPCs at the new corner, and we need to think of a name for the corner.
Puzzles:
You didn’t think I would start this without puzzles, did you?
If we get seriously going with these, only complete one per story day maximum. They aren’t the only source of drama.

The Guiding Hand – The deity of the village, the Guiding Hand leads us to new parts of our island, new food sources, new resources, and leads our children to valuable relics or mushrooms. It guides us as to what step to take in our lives and what skills to teach our children when we ask. We thank it with festivals and prayer.
I think a good way to be led rather than being picked up by a giant hand would be to lose control of your body and walk/jog/run somewhere.
Ever play favorites with your villagers? I do. If you want, we can have one character who is ‘teacher’s pet’, a favorite of the Guiding Hand who gets led more often in exchange for new clothes and maybe a new name. (S)he could be an oracle as well, being visited by visions or something.
Rules (You must read and follow!):
-All YWS rules (good grammar, punctuation, etc.)
-Use spellcheck and proofread your posts.
-Please first write out your posts on MS Word or some other program to ensure correct spelling and readable paragraphs.
-Take your time on posts. Really. Take an hour if you have it. I reserve the right to void poor posts. Don’t post just for the sake of posting, move the story along with each post.
-Post! Regularly!
-Romance is fine and could be really fun, but nothing mature or graphic. I don’t consider a kiss graphic, but much further is too much.
-Please keep cursing mild and minimal. If you cuss too often I reserve to right to kick you out.
-Keep the horror and gore PG-13. I respect that things could get creepy as they could in any story, but if the need arises, be gentle so I can keep the PG-13 rating.
-No drugs.
Profile Template:
Because this is going slowly, up to three characters per person. Seven characters. I’m going to be picky, so if there is something seriously wrong with your profile or you left something out, I’m going to call you on it. If you don’t fix it, I will officially as my official officer self void your profile.
And I have to say, to complete the puzzles, we need someone who is a Master/Late Adept Builder, someone who is a Trainee Healer, and someone who at least Adept in Farming. In successful tribes like the one we leave, someone can reach Master by age 25 if they stick to it.
Please, take the time to be thorough/detailed/realistic.
