Burning the Pages of My Heart
Fire, is forever changing, the way life is, the way people are…the way I am.
The person I used to be, or rather, the person I thought I was, has altered
The thoughts that used to run through my head when I was a child, are gone.
I’ve burned them away.
But now, I don’t think they ever really existed.
I’ve gotten older, and my mind has recreated itself.
I no longer think of games I played, friends I once had, or what dream job I will never get.
My mind has darkened, my thoughts depressed themselves.
Clouded like a dark fall storm.
Death…becomes an all too familiar subject.
As I burn the pages of me that I’ve pulled from my temples…
Part of my heart burns away with them.
I feel empty, needing something to fill the gap I’ve shaped…or someone.
But who,
Who would want to seal the burnt hole in my heart?
Who would want to fill up the empty shell of the girl I thought I once was?
No one would.
The answer is that simple.
The burnt pages of my life fly out of my tiny fire, away from me,
Ashes in the wind,
Sparks in the sky.
So now what?
I’m lost in my own world,
Wandering down the empty city streets, a hole in my heart,
Wishing I’d brought my fire with me,
To burn more pages.

Wow, that is a really nice poem! It really got me thinking about everything I've been going through the past few months, years... I love it! How about changing the title to a better one so everybody else gets stung by it and automatically clicks this terrific poem.

It is really good. I like the use of the burnt hole, and how it need to be sealed. And I agree, it does make me think about what I have done in the past, and how it is being burnt out. But for the title, how about something like 'The burning Pages'?

This is indeed one of the better poems I have read. The structure is great, and the meaning is deep, and close to whats left of my heart. I think you should rename it something along the line of A Dying Fire or something in the means of burning life out. Just change the title and the poem will be better, for your title does not do the poem justice. It was amazing though.

Never forget how special this site is: the older I get, the more I realize how many lonely writers there are who have only family and maybe some friends to read their works. The fact we get free critique, nightly writing pads, free contests and unlimited interaction at *no cost* with people genuinely wanting to help, can not be overstated or overrated
