“I love you! Why can’t you just open your eyes and see how perfect we would be together?” tears rolled down my cheeks as I yelled into his slightly flushed face. My heart was drumming with the rain that was falling all around me. Why couldn’t he just see who I was?
He looked down, his fingers intertwining as he spoke. “I know, I may have possibly-”
“Lead me on? Yes you did! If your answer is that you hate my guts and that I am an annoying insane idiot then yes you lead me on!” I bit my lip, and I knew that black rivers were running down my face, I just wanted him so badly…why was this so hard?
“Em…will you do something for me?” the words came out in a hoarse whisper.
“You know I’d do anything for you.” As I said those words, I knew it was true, even though I hated him at that exact moments, I loved him at the same time.
“I want you to leave me alone. Never act more than a friend to me, can you do that for me?”
I could feel my heart breaking, pain flooded throughout my chest. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t breathe. It felt as if I had swallowed a huge rock and it jabbing into the place where it was tucked behind my heart. It felt as if I had run into a rose bush, it felt like my legs had been hit with an incredible force, the pain burned and bruised like no other wound.
“Can you do that for me?” he repeated the words, and my lip trembled. But I knew that I would, I would do anything for him, even if it meant killing myself inside.
I slowly nodded, fresh tears falling down my face and mixing with tears of the heavens, as if God was crying for my pain. “Thank you,” the bittersweet words flowed from his lips and into my ears. I knew those were the only sweet words I would get from him now, it was all gone, and my life had been shattered.

I sat by the fence outlining the basketball courts outside of our school. I couldn’t help but notice him sitting by the other part of the fence instead of playing. Yes, he was short, but that didn’t stop him from playing.
A rock in my throat traveled up into my mouth, but I quickly swallowed it down. That was when I saw that he wasn’t alone. It was the new girl, who I had shown around, and spilled my secrets to, and she had just tossed me aside like a bone to a dog, not caring if I lived or died.
Her short black skirt was above the dress code, which was basically like a law at our uniformed school. She waved hi, in her flirtatious way. Too bad I had seen it too many times, to way too many guys. He couldn’t fall for her…could he? No, they were completely opposites. He liked hunting and fishing, she hated blood. He liked the outdoors, she hated getting dirty. He liked sports, she would rather be making out. I shook the thoughts from my head, it was impossible.
No, not impossible, not even improbable, because there she was sitting next to him in the most awkward pose possible with her swishy short skirt. Her tight, white polo stretched way too much across her chest, and the buttons were unbuttoned way too low. And her eyes were outlined with flirtatious sparkles that made her look more like a clown than a fairy.
But he didn’t think that she looked like a clown, she must have looked like a Goddess to him compared to me. Because he flirted, whispering compliments and sayings that made her giggle. And I couldn’t stand it, I couldn’t take it anymore. My heart was clearly breaking, but no one cared to see it. No one cared.

The sharp pain in my hand was enough to make me cry out in pain, but I had to do this. This was just a start. Blood dribbled from my palm, and I put my right pointer finger in the forming puddle.
“I love you…” the blood seeped through the white paper, but I didn’t care. It was still legible. It would be okay, it would all be okay. He would see this and feel sorry for me, if this was the only way to get him, I would do this. I would do this.

“Emma, stop! Just stop!” his hand was wrapped around my wrist in a tight grip. I closed my eyes, forcing his face out of my mind. I wouldn’t turn around and look at him, I wouldn’t talk to him. I wouldn’t, I couldn’t.
“Leave me alone!” I cried, trying to yank my wrist from his iron grip.
“Snap out of it!” he yelled, his free hand hitting my cheek.
I winced and stopped struggling. Tears were forming from the sting, and I knew it would leave a mark. Sobs escaped their imprisonment in my chest, and next thing I knew, I was on the ground, crying.
Scars were along my wrist, and the scar from when I wrote the letter in blood still rested on my palm. “She’s so much better than me! I can’t ever match up to her, you love her and not me…you always loved someone else.”
I could feel his breathing change, it was slower, almost like gasping. I felt him sit down next to me, his hand still clasped around my lower arm. “She’s nothing like you.”
“Don’t you think I know that?” I cried. “Don’t you know that I know she’s better?”
“I know that you think she’s better. But you only think that, there is not fact that she is.”
“Don’t act so technical!” I said. “Just get to the point!”
“If you say so,” he replied and I felt him turn my face towards his, and I felt our lips smash together. But for once in two months, I felt no pain, just a surge of joy and happiness…
As he pulled away, he did so slowly. He gazed into my eyes and tucked a stray dirty blond hair behind my ear. “You have the most beautiful eyes,” he said. I remembered him saying that once…he had said that a few weeks after her found out I had fallen head over heels for him. I had thought that was the beginning, I had hoped that that was the beginning. But it hadn’t been.
“Why…”
“I was stupid. I was stupid and wanted Carli for the wrong reasons. I wanted you for the right reasons, but was so confused.”
“You wanted me?” my breathing increased as the words tumbled from my lips in disbelief. I had to clarify what he had said, had those words really been said by him? By him who had made me not talk to him?
“Yes, and once I saw what you were doing to yourself…I wanted to help you, and I knew. I knew that you were the right one, I knew that you should belong to me. Can you ever forgive me? Because it will take some time for me to forgive myself.”
I looked down. “I…I don’t know.”
His eyes turned down in despair, and I could feel my heart plummet.
“I love you, but I hate you,” I said. “You are someone who I always think about, someone who I want to hurt. You’re the kind of guy who I want to kiss in the rain, but someone who I want to lose everything. Just like I lost everything two months ago.”
“I already did lose everything,” he put his hand under my chin and ran his fingers up and down my thin cheekbones. “I lost you. Can you ever be returned to me?”
That’s when I broke down. Tears flooded from my blue eyes and I couldn’t breathe, I was choking on my tears. “You already found me.”
