(I haven't posted in a while...so...have at it)

The bar is just a little too high
It hangs just out of reach
I could get a stepladder
Or even pull up a chair
But that is so much effort
And I just might fall

The brass ring is just brass
It’s not silver or gold
What value is brass?
And it seems to move
When I reach for it
So I just won’t try

The carrot that dangles
Just in front of my face
Is nothing but a vegetable
And I’d rather have cake
Or cookies, or chocolate
I just don’t want it

Why should I strive
For what I can’t have
I wouldn’t want it if I could have it
So until I learn to like what I’ve got
I’m not wasting my time
It’s just not worth it
I reject your reality and substitute my own

It makes me sad when poems have no comments, especially when they are worth comments..
I like the title a lot for one thing, and the content isn't bad either  I dont really understand what its all about though..i mean it sounds good..but what is it actually about?!
"Sometimes we see a cloud that's dragonish,
A vapour sometimes like a bear or lion,
A towered citadel, a pendant rock,
A forked mountain, or blue promontory,
With trees upon't that nod unto the world,And mock our eyes with air.."

Firstly, thank you Muse for bring this poem back up to the top. Might have missed it otherwise...

Every stanza is different and seemingly has very little do with the others. But, you connect them all even though they all describe something else.

But there's something else bigger that you achieved; you used metaphors without seeming like you used metaphors. That is, they weren't hashed out and seemed like a natural part of the poem. What's better is that they are something everyone can easily relate to.
If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them.
