Author's Note: Well, I'm not exactly sure. I just know that he lost me. Way long ago.
“Say you’re sorry that face of an angel comes out just when you need it to.”
“I’m sorry, Beth. Will you forgive me?” He says, his dark brown eyes digging holes into mine.
So close. He’s standing so close to me.
“No.” I say flatly.
“Look, I’m sorry, okay? I acted like a dick.” The words flow out from his lips, so easily. Just like they did last time.
“Do you seriously think that’s going to work everytime? I believed you last time, forgave you. And what did you? Break my heart. Just forget it, okay? You are a dick. And that isn’t going to change.” I replied, tears welling up in my eyes.
“Please no.”
I stared at him. Was he being genuine? Did he really mean it? Or was it like last time?
“I’m not a princess, this ain’t a fairytale, I’m not the one you’ll sweep off her feet, lead her up the stairwell.”
“Don’t you remember how it was like before? C’mon, we can start again. Start fresh.” He said after a small pause.
“It’s not that easy. It just isn’t Stanley.” I said, my voice cracking a bit at ‘easy’.
“It doesn’t have to be hard! Believe me Beth!” He says, his voice getting an octave higher.
A small smile spreads on my face, a smile of pain.
“That’s what you said last time.”
“I did? I mean..just..Beth. Please?”
“There in my rearview mirror dissapearing now. Now it’s too late for you and your white horse, to catch me now.”
“Stanley. It’s over. All this was fake. I forgave you once. I can’t do it again.”
“Beth no, please.”
“Stanley, it’s over.” I said, brushing the tears off my face.
And just like that I turned on my heel, and walked the other direction.
Out of his life, his fake love, the pain he gave me, and those sleepless nights forever. You lost me. You lost me a long time ago.
