Hands

Inspiration comes from the smallest things. Seeing a little girl with her father walking down the street, the little girl's arm reached as high as she could to hold her daddy's hand. It makes me all gushy. Lol.

Hey there, </3. Hands are one of the hardest things to draw, but you've done a fairly good job. Here are a few of the things I noticed:

The bigger hand's fingers are too stiff. The little hand is only grabbing onto the index finger, but all the other fingers are straight like they're being pulled at along with the index finger.

The bigger hand's pinky seems to have disappeared, oddly.

Your shading needs just a little work. The way it is makes it seem like there's a huge bulge on the back of the big hand. For flat things like backs of hands you don't want shading like that, you want a simple gradient-esque shading. Here, you have a white part in the middle of grey, and then a darker part conjoined with that, with no dissolving into each other, and they're in the middle of the hand, instead of being the hand. It would look better even if you had made it the whole hand, since it would look pudgy instead of having a lump.

If you were going to draw tendons and other details like that you would want lines of dark with lines of light next to them going down the back of the hand, but you obviously weren't going for that kind of realism, and so in this case you should keep the shading simple. Just make the hand one color, make the part that's the furthest from the light source darker and closest to the light source lighter and leave this big, neutral part in between.

Other than that, as I said, hands are very hard. Good job!

From one artist to another, you just need to focus on the thumb. The base of the thumb kind of juts out. Not very attractive. But otherwise i think you are a great artist. Keep practicing!

I like the colouring and links you've drawn between the two hands because it has that emotional effect that I love about art. Your illustration skills are very good but I think you just need to be more confident in strengthening some of the features.

I think that this is a cute little picture, with a little hand (from a rainbow vortex) reaching up for another, bigger and stronger hand.
It looks sort of like there are a few holes in the paper that you drew this on, that's not good. Also, while the smaller hand is nicely proportioned, the bigger hand has a bit strange angles...

your talent is excelent. The picture you drew is from a common concept. It works. I like the colors and wo you titled it although I think you could have shaded it a bit different. As your first review said the pinky is gone, the shadding is off and the index finger is pulling down the rest of the hand, but also like your first review the hands of people are hard to draw and this is a pretty good job.

That is so true , too! When I see a little girl or little boy walking with their daddy it makes me feel gushy too! I guess it's the warm feeling of love. I like the back-splash too. Full of color. Keep drawing!

Hands are very difficult to draw. You did a rather good job of it though. I did notice that the thumb was a little awkward. It should be turned a little bit as if he is trying to hold her little hand back. I think someone already mentioned this but what happened to the little finger? Good job though!

This is a cute picture. I like it. It has a bit of a cartoonish appeal, which is good for any kind of age group and setting. It also has a good message - about the father holding his child's hand... I also like the colors, and how you put a focus on the hands; it emphasizes my above messages.

If I were you, I'd be yelling, "Blargh! Scanners Suck!"
I can tell that details got washed out and it seems to happen with most scanners. Try messing with the quality settings (set to "photograph" or "illustration") or fixing with Picasa or some such program. Being an artist, myself, I know that it's incredibly difficult to portray the original in a copy, but keep up the good work!
