Yeah, I don't have a title yet, I just can't think of them. I would like your thoughts on this and if you would read it if I continued. I don't even know if it's that great.

Chapter One-
I twisted around at the crack of a twig. I was lying on my back amongst the freshly grown weeds in our garden
I sat up as another twig snapped, through the brush you could just barley see the outline of a man dressed in black.
“I see you haven’t given up your midnight strolls.” The man in black said his deep voice recognizable.
“You know how hard it is for me to give up habits.” I said playing along. He grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. “I’ve missed you.” I said hugging him. He had grown since we had last seen each other, well I had too.
“I have missed you too, sister.” I gave him a peck on his cheek; he had gotten so tall I had to stand on my tip toes to do so, and then I wrapped my arms around his waist. My brother had grown into a handsome man. A year of fighting in the war had enlarged his muscles quite a bit. He wasn’t just skin and bones any more.
“You’ve been taking care of yourself?” I asked him reluctantly pulling back. I was afraid that if I let go of him he would take off yet again.
“Oh course, the war took a toll on me. With the shortage of food, but I survived.”
“This is what I thank God for every day.” He hugged me again squeezing so tight I thought I might burst.
I knew why he was back, all of a sudden after three years he had to have a reason. He had finally gotten my letter about our father. I had begged him to return home claiming I couldn’t survive father’s death with no one by my side. Which was a lie, I would have been just fine when he died. Well you can’t judge me. Our father really wasn’t what you would call a nice man, but we still cared for him. Well at least I did.
Jayme’s face turned sober, and I realized how much I had missed his smile.
“How is he?”
“Well, he’s alive.” I told him. We both knew it wasn’t going to last too much longer. The end of the war hadn’t even been strong enough to bring Jayme back home. He had stormed out right after our mother had died; dad had blamed him for it. Saying that he ran around so much and causing her so much heart ache. So he just ran off to join the union army, but it was over now and the North had defeated the South.
“Jayme, you couldn’t find time to come back?” I asked stepping back out of his grasp.
“Jess, you know what happened to me and dad. Do you think I wanted to stay away from you for so long? I also wrote you, so you can’t be so terribly upset with me.” He was right, I couldn’t ever be upset with him for to long even when we were children.
“How long are you staying?”
“Well I guess however long it takes him to turn cold.”
“Jayme! You know that’s not very nice.”
“Oh yes, I keep forgetting that you still care for him.”
“What are you going to do with the house?” Our father owned one-hundred acres basically in the middle of nowhere.
“Well I was thinking of selling it,”
“But why?”
“I have no intention of staying here. I wasted 17 years of my life here I’m not going to waste anymore.”
“No, you can’t! I’ll take it; I’ll take on our workers and buy supplies and everything.”
“Jessica, do you really think I’m going to give one-hundred acres to an unwed 16 year old girl? You know how many men will try to use you to get to our property?”
“Well I can get married, I will Jayme, and I grew up in this house, in this garden, on this land. I’m not letting it go.”
“You aren’t going to go out and get married to someone you barley know. I want you marriage to last, I want you to have a man that will take care of you and love you and love your kids.” He didn’t want me to be with someone like daddy. That was basically the end of the conversation.
“Let’s go in.” He suggested pulling me along with him.

There it is. Please comment on it!

The history geek in me loved it. :P

However, the thrill-seeker was bored- with this cliched of a plot (so far) you're going to have to work really hard to make it unique.

Those are pretty much my only comments for now...I'd like to read more, to see how it is. :D

For the most part I enjoyed this. I'm really quite interested in where you're going to go and what sort of characters are going to turn up.

Three things stood out to me though:
1) Jayme’s face turned sober, and I realized how much I had missed his smile.

This is the first time you give her brother a name. It doesn't make it extremely clear who it is and the reader is forced to assume that this is her brother and not some random character that has just decided to pop up in the middle of the scene. Maybe you would work into the dialouge earlier or something to make it so that the reader doesn't have to assume anything?

2) “Jayme! You know that’s not very nice.”
“Oh yes, I keep forgetting that you still care for him.”

These too lines bother the dialouge person in me greatly. Firstly, both lines seem extremely unemotional and they're talking about thier father dying for goodness sake!

The words "you know that's not very nice" make it sound like she's just lightly scolding him. I would cut it off at just "Jayme!" and then describe how she's saying it. Is she shocked, angry, upset? give the reader a little something more there.

And his reply is very matter-of-fact. I can't imagine anyone going from talking about his father turning cold to being yelled at by someone he cares about and then into a "oh, that's right... you care about him..." It just doesn't seem to click. I imagine Jayme is bitter over how his father has cared for both him and Jessica. Is there someway you can show that in his reaction?

3) this one is fairly minor... but, I just want to know what it is about authors and wanting to give siblings names that start with the same letter of the alphabet. I love the name Jayme and I love the name Jessica... but it just seems... odd... It's probably not a big deal and it won't ruin anything if you keep the names the way they are, but I just had to mention it.

Thanks that does help. Oh my gosh you noticed the name thing? I really didn't mean to have it like that. I just liked the name Jayme ALOT and then I liked Jessica too, I only noticed that they had the same letter after I had started and then I was like duh. Yeah I didn't mean to do that. Thanks again.

Reviewing this after I've read the chapter two...

I like the dialogue here. It doesn't seem stilted, and you got descriptions and emotions to back it up with. Thought it was well done.

At this point, the plot does seem cliche, but you've revealed so little that it's hard to tell where you'll go with it. Besides, being cliche isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's what you bring to it that matters. Right now, it is a bit yawning, but this is only the first page, and the first page is usually yawning.

Sometimes, though, it sounds rambling. For instance:

"My brother had grown into a handsome man. A year of fighting in the war had enlarged his muscles quite a bit. He wasn’t just skin and bones any more."

It just sounds like you're listing more and more stuff with no point. To fix that, try combining these three sentences into two or just one.

Too much detail for me. For me you have to let the new information and detail sink in before you add some new stuff in it.
