What do you look for in a potential girlfriend/boyfriend?

Just curious what some of the other people on here look for in a potential mate. I personally am one to be attracted by personality far more than looks (not that good looks don't add to it, of course). I like girls that are shy, intellectual, that I can talk to about pretty much anything, and that like deep conversations on the nature of life and existence and all that good stuff. Creativity is a huge plus for me as well, I find it hard to relate to non-creative people in general, even in a platonic relationship (or even with other guys). I can't stand slutty girls or girls who flirt with every guy in the room, it's an instant turn off. It just makes them seem so in-genuine. Which I guess is also maybe why I like shy girls. Also ignorance and stupidity in general turns me off, no matter how hot the girl is. And of course, if she's writer, than would just be amazing. Though I've never actually met a girl in real life who was into writing.

When it comes to the physical side, I'm not very particular at all, but I do like paleness (I know I'm weird) and dark hair. I also tend to think that girls with a unique or "odd" look to them are more attractive then a typical "hot" girl, who often seem very generic looking to me and you can barely tell them all apart.

SO...what do you find attractive?

Since no one can see the person's personality just by looking, then the first thing someone notices is The Physical.

Well, I really like seeing the eyes, smile, and their hands... oh! And the hair...

xD

I'm definitely into the laid back creative intellectual type. Of course, that doesn't happen very often. At all. Personality is tops, of course, but I generally prefer red/dark hair, and a nice smile.

Most importantly- Authenticity, maturity, independence, kindness, spirit, intellect. A good heart. A good smile. And someone who looks good...not on the surface but someone who you can just sense is good by looking at her.

a typical "hot" girl, who often seem very generic looking to me and you can barely tell them all apart.

Lol agreed, they're a dime a dozen and they are all the same.

Glad someone finally agrees with me! Most of my friends look at me like I'm crazy when I say that.

I totally agree with everything you said, you are so right. There are so many more ''hot girls'' than intellectual ones. It's frightening. Girls these days are so caught up with their appearance. You know it's funny too because I was just in my library recently, sitting in an aisle, book in hand, and it occurred to me how little of the girls there were actually reading or looking at books. More than half were sitting at a computer desk checking their Myspace or the hot guy walking past.

As for me personally, I really don't care for the physical appearance though looking good doesn't hurt! I prefer quieter guys that truly care about the girl on their arm for who she is, not seeing her as just another hot date. I prefer someone who is willing to talk about what's on their mind and then listen to what's on mine. I'd like someone who I can relate with. I prefer as you said Teufelshund, maturity, kindness, and a good heart.

Sadly, these guys are hard to find. I knew one once but alas...... :(

And if I really had to say something on the physical note, I would say that I prefer a medium height guy with dark brown hair. Think James McAvoy.

I can't believe I'm the only girl who commented so far. Usually these sort of topics are loaded with comments.

You're very right, dreamer. In my school everything revolves around physical attraction in a very, very bad way.

I've just got to say that the whole high schoolish "dating" thing has gone wayyyyy downhill. You know it, where you like someone who likes you and then you're suddenly "talking," which just involves insane amounts of texting. And this is now considered a realationship status. Then when you see them in person it's always awkward with a lot of cell phone checking. I tried this once and that was enough to say that it is nottt for me.
Sorry, I just really had to get that off my chest.

I like guys who are attractive, obviously. I don't really have a preference for what exactly I want them to look like, but I can't help but get really excited when an attractive boy looks my way.
But deeper than that, I love boys who aren't afraid of what people think and the refuse to let the situation be awkward. I like guys who are bold and can make me laugh, because I love to laugh.
I like boys who are intellegent, who can talk with me about books and words. When guys are stupid and try to act stupid, that is a major turn off.
But most importantly, I like guys who are kind hearted, moral, and not caught up in all the crap of high school.
I'll listen to the conversations of the boys around me about smoking pot, hooking up with slutty girls, talking about how they hate their families, how they don't care about thier religion, and cussing like sailors. Really, those are the absolute worst turn offs any guy could harbor. It's sickening how apathetic they can be.
Sorry about the novel I just wrote. I'm prone to that.

I always seem to fall for guys for their smiles. Something about these quiet natured, very sly smiles are always so cute. But it also gives a lot away about a persons personallity just by the way that they smile.

As far as personality goes, more than anything, I like guys who I can be open with. Like, chill with them in my pajamas and feel at ease with. But I love creative guys too. Something about having a guy I can talk to about writing or books or even the way someone directed a particular film is just amazing.
Never forget who you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.

Hmm let's see, what I look for in a guy:

1. Christian who walks the walk and doesn't just talk the talk - too many of those around, I like someone with a genuine faith, be it guy or girl
2. Respectful and mature - very key for me, I just don't find myself relating with immature guys
3. Fun and funny - He's comfortable with who he is and can joke around without being so conservative
4. Nice looking - Yesss appearances do matter to me, more than I'd like them to
5. Likes horses - I'm building my career and life around them, can't have a horse hater!

Bonus: British accent and/or blue eyes! ;D

Hmm, well when I first look at a guy I notice his eyes. I like bright and warmness to them! I want to feel comforted. They can be any light color, preferably blue, but I go nuts over green. I don't really care about what his bod looks like. I mean, I don't think I'd date an overly big guy, but I honestly love imperfect bodies! Haha.

I prefer dark guys. I actually have a shirt that says "I don't date white boys" and a lot of my guy friends find it offensive because...I don't know.

Anyway, in guys I like them to not be scared to make a move and to not be shy around me. Like my current boyfriend :D I also look for someone who can make me gut laugh. If they can't do that then...they fail. They also have to be honest, affectionate, like hugs as much as I do, and not afraid to dance with me :) When I'm not serious, I'm a real...idiot. Lol. He has to put up with all of me and not have a problem with it and we have to like the way eachother smells.

Now girls, on the otherhand, I like ones with curves and gorgeous hair. Everything above for the guys applies to the females as well :)

Oh, yeah. And we have to have great chemistry, duh :P

I must admit, I tend to be a bit shallow when it comes to a guy having a lasting impression on me just by his looks. I like guys to be masculine, both physically and personality wise. Nothing turns me off more on a guy than girliness.

When it comes to other girls, I like someone that reminds me of myself. Vain sounding, I know, but I just love it for a girl to be outspoken, blunt, and speaks her mind. Physically, I tend to be more attracted to more exotic looking girls, whether she is pale with dark hair and light eyes, or tan with dark hair and eyes.
