This is a pretty slow song with just acoustic guitar in it. Chords are just Cadd9 and G repeating. What do you think? ;)
Here is a link to hear the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huL3EfQC4zI

Cadd9...................G [then repeat through whole song]
I can’t tell you how often you help me
When you don’t even know
I can’t tell you how much you help me
I don’t think you’ll ever know
You are a dream too amazing for me
I don’t deserve you, no
And you are a dream I’ll never get to hold
But at least you’ll know

Every time I’m feeling down
You always come around to save me again
Oh you saved me again

My greatest friend, I love you
My greatest friend, it’s only you

You’re the only one who can bring me up
On the worst days of my life
You always know just what to say
To make everything alright
I don’t even tell you what is wrong
And you just change my mind
Ooh you save my life
Oh you saved my life again

My greatest friend, I love you
My greatest friend, it’s only you

I remember that night
I was crying till the morning light
Then I looked in your eyes
And I saw my life

Ooh I’m in love with my greatest friend
I love you greatest friend

You’re the only one, the only one, the only one for me
You’re the only one, the only one, the only one can’t you see

Hey, Janay!

First of all, I think it's great how you've also thought about the music. I can't compose music to save my life, so it's admirable how some people do. And the fact there's music in, makes me like this song more, because without it, if it had just been the lyrics, it would have been very plain and forgettable. In a way, I don't think there are necessarily bad songs, because still every one of them has gone through the composing and the lyric writing process, and somehow I can't consider any song bad because of that. I might not like so-and-so song, but someone does, and it's why it can't be bad.

However, this song didn't really make any difference in my life. Toward the end, it was getting very repetitive, so I would suggest cutting off the extra "ooh you save my life, oh you saved my life again" sort of parts and expanding the song with different views, or then just replacing them with something more versatile. Same applies to the music – could you imagine trying to come up with a bit more varied chords in the chorus?

Also, beware the clichées. Many of the aspects in this song are something people have heard in many other songs, in a form or another. What new could you bring to this field? What makes this particular song stand out in the crowd? Give it a bit thought and make it show in the lyrics!

Just out of curiosity, what's the genre of this song? I was thinking it could be a mixture of country and pop, but I don't know if I'm right at all...

I'm afraid this is all I can provide you with at the moment. I hope I could help, at least a little! Keep writing.

Thanks that was very thoughtful(:
I really don't consider any of my songs one kind of genre because they are always something different. This is a very quiet song with just guitar so it makes it even harder to place. I would say you are about right though, i guess some kind of alternative country or pop.
Hopefully I can post the song on youtube soon though so people can get a better idea of it ;D
