Okay...so my colleg group was charged by our church to make a haunted house for kids ages 5 to fifth grade age. We all have been scratching our heads, because no one, save for me of course, has done this kind of thing really before. I've done some creepy and violent haunted house stuff before; I've orchestrated a bit where a good friend of mine faked his own suicidal hanging just to scare people, but obviously, that's not a good idea to traumatize a bunch of little church-kids, right? SO I developed this idea isntead, thanks to listening to the band Bohren and der Club of Gore. Please tell me waht you think, and if there is anyting I can do to improve the idea:
instead of the typical, gothic macrabre kind of stuff you do for a halloween house or whatever, what if we did this instead. We construct a little 'city' in the room, with very dim lighting, and some smoke (if we cna get our hands on a fog machine; Walmart sells them for $25 I'm pretty sure.) We get the girls to dress up in pretty skirts (assuming any of the girls are gonna do this, that is..) and get a few guys to dress up as escaped convicts. The theme is a noir-kind of dream/reality that the kids walk through, read certain signs (little clues that lead them to chests that either hold candy, or are 'feely' chests, which are put out as tricks.) and lead them on a short little adventure through a dark and halloweenish city...we use signs, or use like some kind of paper or something to create footprints that they have to follow to find the candy chests, meanwhile the girls in the skirts are helping them along, while us convicts skulk around in teh shadows, hiding behind objects, occasionally peeking out, but not jumping out at the kids...it could be an idea, anyways. That was my idea for you right there. What do you think? Is it doable?
and by the way, if we do do this idea, I've goth e perfect soundtrack for it; we can play some crazy background music, and I've got this band on my ipod that is perfect for this kind of scenario. Listen to this, and you'll see what i'm talking about. This band is awesome:
