Chapter nine

After a couple days of school, Ethan and Adam had become best friends. They always with one another whether it was at lunch, at practice, or at the downtown library. One day at lunch, Ethan had chosen to sit with Adam and his friend.

“Why is he sitting of there?” Adelicia asked as she sat down in her usual chair next to Ashton.

“Who knows,” I said as I sat down across from the two.

“I don’t like him,” Ashton said, “ He is too different than us.”

“Well, you are going to have to get use to him, Ashton, because he is mating with Elizabeth,” Adelicia said as she put a hand over his. I watched as she whispered something in his ear to cause him to smile. His fingers tighten around hers as they smiled at one another. I looked away. Something caught my eye at Ethan’s table, so I look at them. Adam was motioning for me to come over to him and sit with them. I shook my head “no” and turned my attention back to Adelicia and Ashton.

The bell rang and everyone scrabble out of the café. As I walked to my class, Ethan came up behind.

“Hey, are you okay?” Ethan asked as he looked at my face. Over the last couple of days, Ethan has gotten really good about reading my emotions.

“I’m fine. Just Ashton and Adelicia lovey dovey routine again,” I said as I walked down the hallway.

“And you are wishing that you had that too,” Ethan said as he walked beside me. I felt his glaze on me as we walked. “And you will. Listen, can you please come with Adam and me to the library after practice to help us with our project?”

“What’s the project?” I asked. I had a sneak suspicion that Ethan was play matchmaking, but why? And with a human boy too. He is trying to kill me, I thought.

He grinned. “History,” He said. I glared at him, and then soften it. I love my history. Living before the revolutionary war did that to you. I sighed.

“Alright. I will go with you,” I said as we stopped near my next class.

“Great. See ya later then,” Ethan said as he walked away. I watched him walk away before going into the classroom. Just hope that he knows what he is getting into, I thought as the bell rang for class to begin.

~*~*~*~*~*~*

After a good practice, I change back into my regular clothes and packed up my stuff. I told Ashton and Adelicia that I was going with Ethan and Adam to the library to help them with their project for their class. Ashton took my stuff and said that he would care of it for me. I said my thanks and then I met Ethan and Adam over at Adam’s car.

“Ready?” Adam asked me.

“As I will ever be,” I said as Ethan moved the seat so I could sit in the back. I took a seat and buckle up. Ethan and Adam crawled in after me and we took off to the library. I looked out the window as Adam drove over to the library. I could feel his gaze on me from the rearview mirror. I return the stare.

“So, what is this project on? Any particular era or year?” I asked them.

“The Tudor era in England,” Adam replied.

“Interesting. Do you both have the same era?” I asked.

“Yeah. Me and your cousin are partners,” Adam said with a smile.

“Oh I want to thank you for being so kind to my cousin on his first day of school,” I said. His smile got wider.

“it’s no problem. I remember what it is like to be the new kind,” Adam said as he turned down the road that ran in front of the library.

“Oh? So you are saying you weren’t born here?” I asked, curiously.

“Nope,” he said as he turned into the library parking lot. He parked his car and then turned it off. Ethan got out and then flipped the seat for me to get out. I got out and close the door behind me.

“You guys go ahead and find us a table to work at. I will go looking for books dealing with the Tudor era,” Adam said as he came up beside.

“Sounds like a good plan,” Ethan said. We walked toward the building. As we were walking, I caught Adam’s scent. His scent was tainted with something. I frowned as we walked into the building. Adam split from us and headed towards the reference section of the library. I stared after him until I felt a hand on my shoulder.

“Liz? Come on,” Ethan said. We walked towards the study rooms. We managed to find one that was available. We both set down our stuff and took a seat in a chair. I looked around the room. The walls were white as fresh snow. I could smell the paint coming off the walls. I thought about Adam and his scent.

“Ethan? Is Adam alright?” I asked.

“Why? Are you worried about him?” He teased.

“Oh, shut up. It’s just his scent. It was tainted with something,” I said as I scowled at him.

“I think he is anxious because you are spending time with us. He has wanted to hang out with you from sometime now or so he has told me,” He said with a shrug of his shoulders.

“Oh. Did he tell why he is so interested in me?” I asked. He shrugged.

“Hell if I know, but I can tell you this, he has it bad,” He said. I was about to open my mouth to retort, but Adam walked in with a bunch of book on a cart. I looked at some of the titles. Living in the Tudor era, Henry VIII and his six wives, Blood Mary: the unveiling of the Scots Queen, and Queen Elizabeth: England’s Greatest Queen.

“Good titles,” I said as my eyes met his. They were so blue; it felt like I was falling into the ocean.

“Yeah, but this one doesn’t have anything to do with the Tudors,” Ethan said as he pick a slim book from the rack and held it out to me. I took the book and looked at the cover.

“The murder of the mayor Whitaker and his wife,” I read aloud. I froze once I read the title. “Why do you have this book?” I asked him.

“Personally project,” Adam said as he sat his book bag on the table with a cluck. He took the book and set it on the table. “Come on, I want to start working on the project.”

“Okay,” I said, letting the subject drop for now. “What are the requirements?” He handed me a sheet of paper and I read it. I walked over to the cart after I read the paper and pull two books off the cart. I put it on the table.

“All it says to do is copy down the major event within the ear and make a timeline. You two can do this on your own. I don’t know you needed me,” I said as I flipped open the book. Adam’s heartbeat picked up speed in fear. “Would you two care to explain why you brought me?” I looked at the two of them. They looked at each other.

“It’s my fault,” Adam said as he looked down at the table’s surface. “I just wanted to spend some time with you. I mean that’s what friend do, isn’t it?” I was surprised that he admitted to it. I sighed as I seat down in a chair.

“Fine, but next time, just ask and don’t use false pretenses to get me there. I don’t like being lie too,” I said as I put my hand to my eyes. I couldn’t believe he wanted to spend time with me. Chill, Elizabeth I thought to myself, he is a human. It’s not like he wanting to start a relationship with you.

“So, are you going to tell what to do?” Ethan asked. I removed my hand and quirked an eyebrow at him. “Okay, right. We have this sheet here to do that.” I sighed.

“Just copy the main event down, and when you are done, put them in order,” I said as I took the slim book up again. “Do you mind if I read this while you guys are working on your stuff?” I asked Adam.

“No, go ahead,” he said as he pulled some paper out of his book bag. I was curiously on what the book said about my father and mother’s slaying. And there was the matter of my disappearance as well.

“The murder of mayor Whitaker and his wife happen on May 10, 1775 when the mayor gave signs of still being loyal to the British. Some of the townspeople found out and were enrage. The townspeople had a riot and march to the mayor’s house. And then murder him and his wife in cold blood.

Whitaker and his wife also had a 20-year-old daughter and were engaged to married a lord in Great Britain, but there was evidence that she may have been killed as well. But when the officers arrived at the scene, her body wasn’t found.”

No shit, I thought as I closed the book. I folded my hands behind my head and closed my eyes. The memories of me first becoming a vampire played in my head. I shivered as I remember my first human kill.

“Are you cold?” I heard and opened my eyes. Adam was looked at me with concern in his eyes.

“What?” I asked, confused.

“You shivered and I was wonder if you were cold,” he said as he held up his hoodie, “ because if you are, I will give you my hoodie.” I stared at the jacket in his hand. I nodded and took the hoodie. I shrugged and was engulfed in his scent. His scent was heaven to me. It was making me high. I cuddled up in it and wait for the boys to finished.

A couple of minutes later, the boys decided to call it quits for now. I helped them gather the books and put them on the cart.

“Okay, I will meet you guys out at the car while I will rolled this cart up to the desk,” Adam said as he put on his book bag.

“I will go with you if you want,” I said as I also put on my book bag. I could felt Ethan staring at me. I inwardly groaned. “Or not.”

“No, no. That’s fine if you want to come with me,” Adam said in a rushed. Hope soared in my undead heart for some odd reason.

“Okay, Let’s go. See ya at the car, Ethan,” I said with a smiled. Ethan smiled back. Adam and I left the room and walked.

“So, did you..um…like that book?” Adam asked. The chart creaked as it was rolled to the front of the building.

“Interesting,” was all I could say. “What are you interested in that murder?” He shrugged.

“It something to do at home and plus, I like the mystery in it,” He said as he looked me. I swear I get lost in his eyes forever. They were so blue. I was starting to wonder if Adam had the vampire allure as well, because he keeps drawing me in.

“Mystery?” I inquired with a raised eyebrow.

“The couple’s daughter. Her body wasn’t present at the scene, but there was evidence that she was killed too,” he said as he gave the books back to the clerk.

“But this stuff happen over two hundred years ago,” I said as we walked. He opened the door and held it opened for me. I thanked him and we continued walking.

“This town past excited me for some odd reason,” he said as he pulled out his car keys and unlocked the black mustang. Ethan let me in the back and then crawled in himself. We were silence on the way to my house. I smiled a little one to myself. A good fifteen minutes later, we were at the gate.
We all climbed out and Ethan took care of the code. Adam and I stood together.

“Can we get together sometime? To you know, talk about your mystery,” I asked, going for it. Hell I might as well. Adam looked surprised and then turned to me with a smile.

“Sure. That will great,” Adam said. I nodded, also smiling then remembering his hoodie.

“Oh, your hoodie,” I said as I looked down and reached for the zipper. His hand covers my hand and his other cupped my chin, cause me to look up. We were so close. I felt feel his breathe on my lips.

“Keep it. I will see ya tomorrow,” he whispered as he leaned closer. Ethan, damn him, coughed. We sprang apart and then looked at him. He was grinning like the devil.

“I got the gate,” he said, cheerful.

“Okay. I guess I will see you guys tomorrow,” Adam said as he went to his car and crawled in. He waved and then pulled out of the driveway. I turned sharply.

“I knew it! You like him,” Ethan sang. I realization hit me. He’s right. I do. I looked down at my hands.

“Oh, Ethan, what am I going do? He is human and I am vampire,” I whispered. Ethan walked up to me and put an arm across my shoulder.

“Don’t worry. We will figure out something,” He said as we walked to the house.
"I love you," she whispered in his ear, before taking his mouth with her own.

Night Mistress wrote:Chapter nine

After a couple days of school, Ethan and Adam had become best friends. They were always with one another whether it was at lunch, at practice, or at the downtown library. One day at lunch, Ethan had chosen to sit with Adam and his friend. Okay, I see that you are going back in time here to why they became friends. You need a smoother transition because at first I thought you were just talking about a normal day, so be sure to be clear.

“Why is he sitting [s]of[/s] over there?" Adelicia asked as she sat down in her usual chair next to Ashton.

“Who knows,” I said as I sat down across from the two.

“I don’t like him,” Ashton said, “ He is too different [s]than[/s] from us.”

“Hey, are you okay?” Ethan asked as he looked at my face. Over the last couple of days, Ethan has gotten really good about reading my emotions. Just a word to the wise and for future reference, never come out and say exactly what is going on. Instead of saying flat out that Ethan can see her emotions well and read them, hint at it. Is his eyes roaming her face, looking for clues? Does he smile knowingly or touch her shoulder in a comforting jesture? Stuff like that clues the reader in without you having to say it so bluntly.

“I’m fine. Just Ashton and Adelicia lovey dovey routine again,” I said as I walked down the hallway.

And there was the matter of my disappearance as well. Ah, I understand now. But I feel like you kinda slipped that in there without the reader even really being able to understand what that means. “No, no. That’s fine if you want to come with me,” Adam said in a rush[s]ed[/s]. Hope soared in my undead heart for some odd reason. I'm not sure 'hope' is the right word for what she should be feeling. Maybe just her heart flutters and she's confused or desire rises in her. You can decide but hope is kind of odd here.

“Okay, Let’s go. See ya at the car, Ethan,” I said with a smile[s]d[/s]. Ethan smiled back. Adam and I left the room and walked.

“Mystery?” I inquired with a raised eyebrow.

“The couple’s daughter. Her body wasn’t present at the scene, but there was evidence that she was killed too,” he said as he gave the books back to the clerk.

Well well, finally Elizabeth admits her desire for Adam... but why is Ethan encouraging this when they have to marry and bond...? Hmmm, all the possiblities, all the directions this could go in.

I must say you have a nice idea about the library scene but you really need to work on your grammer and Show vs. Tell stuff. Really concentrate on that and I think you'll be fine.

If you have any other questions, let me know and I'll be happy to help :D

Good Luck!
