Character Name Help...

She is a girl of sixteen, brown hair and blue-gray eyes. She has an optimistic view on life that is slowly broken throughout the novel. I need a name .

Originally I had her as
Analina Kathryn Brookes

But I think I am going to change her last name to Blaine.
And I think Analina isn't the right name for her...
Any thoughts and opinions are loved.

Out of the names you like, I like Annabelle or Carlina. But, since you like names with L's here you go:

Lainey (Could be used as a nickname for Alaina. Or, I know someone who does that.)

I think Evelina has a sort of sorrowful sound that would fit someone who had lost all optimism and hope for life

Merrilee: A mix of Merry (cheerful; happy) and Lee (bull meadow; sheep meadow).

I think you just need to try on a couple of names and see if they fit. Kind of like a pair of shoes. Nicknames are always fun. If you want to use your original name but have her go by middle name and shorten it to "Kat." That wouldn't be a bad idea assuming the names feels right for you. The most important thing is to make sure you like it if it really matters to you. Or you could just pick a name and get on with life. You might also try those behind the name websites or go through a phone book and pick some random name.

Definitely, finding a good name is all about trial and error. Sometimes a name just clicks and sometimes it doesn't. But if you want some suggestions maybe:

Laura (just sounds sorta like the character)
Krystal (just seems shimmery and bubbly, right?)
Jenny (again, a very cuties name)

I don't know, but I think you just want to find names that are cute. Those seem right for this character.

How about Laney? For a nickname for Delaney?

I really like Annabelle, but maybe you would also like these suggestions:

I normally take the name that first pops into my mind when thinking about the character. Then I look up the meaning so that it does not totally contradict what my character is about.
Funny things happen to me that way. One of my characters name means resurrection and she has a power that it loosely related to that. I chose that power before I knew what the name meant.
I rely mainly on intuition.
I like Annabelle best of your ideas. Consider which name fits most with the names of people around her. You wouldn't want Annabelle to be surrounded by Janes, Lisas, Lauras, Jennys, Kiras, Stacys and so on. It would only seem odd unless she went by Anna or Belle.

Okay, I like Evelina best out of your list. But I also like Evangeline, Laena, Evelyne, Lily, Aleana, and Carlianne.

Instead of making a redundant new thread, I'll just stowaway on this one. I'm also seeking help with a character name. This will be the MC of the next story I work on. She's a 15-17 year old peasant girl in medieval England circa 1300 or so. She is brave, strong-willed, and very pious. She is average height, and she would be pleasantly curvy if she weren't half starving. Her hair would be rich black-brown and wavy, if it weren't tangled and dirty. Her eyes are either blue or hazel, I haven't decided which. The names I've found that I like so far are:

Margareta
Cecily
Coletta

I pulled them off medieval taxation lists. I was also considering calling her Esther, since I've always liked that name and it's Biblical, which would fit the times.

Well, where would she be from?
-If in France, all of the above are OK, well, maybe not Margareta, but yeah. So Cecily and Coletta are alright, if unusual.
-If in England, common names would be Mary, Ann, etc, depending on area of England.
-If in Spain, I've just realized that nobody seems to write historical fiction set c. 1300 within Spain. But something like Marie, Anna, Isabella (I know, I know, stereotypical, but this is off top-of-head)

So yeah. Location, Location, Location!

Also, Esther's fine; a lot of names were Biblical then, regardless of where on Earth they came from.
