Chapter one - Logan

The street lights glittered off the concrete path and reflected into my eyes. I turned and headed up the stone steps towards the building where a good friend of mine, Jasper was staying. Like Jasper I am a creature that, in order to survive, must take the life of another. I am said to be a demonic shadow, lurking in dark corners as i stalk my vulnerable prey. Yes, I am a Vampire, and honestly, i couldn't care less. Unlike Dan, who has spent his forever youthful days devoted to saving useless mortals. That was one thing i didn't understand. jasper has it all. The money, the youth... but does any of that matter to him? No, he sees these two concepts as mere tools. he even has the nerve to question my lifestyle! I have lived wealthy and young for centuries and have enjoyed every minute. But Jasper is fairly new to this. He has been living as a mythical monster for only eighty two years. But he comes across as wise and full of never ending knowledge. Not to mention his habit of coming off as a therapist. He constantly hastles me about feelings and being more then what i am. As annoying as it is, I admire him for it. There is no doubt he is the most caring creature i've ever known in all the ages I've witnessed.
I knocked on the door roughly and waited for my friend to come retrieve the door. A short moment later he appeared through the opening of the door. " Logan!" He called surprised. I focussed my eyes on the figure sitting quietly on the chair behind Jasper. I rolled my eyes with boredom and invited myself in the house. I pushed past Jasper and made my way to the kitchen with high hopes of finding fresh blood packed in the fridge. "I can't believe you're still with that one" I said rudely nodding over to Kate on the chair. Jasper sighed. He knew I didn't approve of socialising with humans, especially not the females. But as expected, Jasper had 'fallen in love' with Kate. A human woman who worked as a lawyer. She knows all about Vampires (After a month of dating her, Jasper came clean...Of course she had to when she walked in on me feeding on some druggy from the other end of the City), but still. I didn't like it. "Nice to see you too Logan" Kate replied sarcastically. Jasper turned to her with an apologetic look. She gave him a quick smile before adding " I'm going to have a quick shower. Don't forget to ask him Okay?" Jasper nodded once and she turned her heel and walked casually out the door. My eye brows pulled together in confusion. "Ask me what?" Jasper sighed yet again as he pulled pulled out a chair for himself and began " At the bureau there's this case. It has to do with gangs and all..." He stopped mid sentence and I gave him an encouraging nod while taking a sip from the blood pack I'd found. " uh, this one man is being pursued because he was said to have murdered his Fiance. The thing is this guy is the Coyote..." "Wait, The Coyote? Notorious gang member?? Didn't he create the 411? He's practically the King of the Underground isn't he?" I asked with wide eyes. " Yeah, um they say you might know where to start looking for him. His Fiance was found dead two days ago and since then he hasn't been seen... SO what do you say? Wanna do me a favour?" He watched me, eyes wide wtih hope. I paused, aiming for a dramatic effect. "Hmmm... why not? Might as well help you Feds for once." A relieved smile dominated his face. "But you know what i don't get?" He looked at me confused. "Your a vampire, why are you so scared? He's only human?" I was honestly curious. He dropped his head, obviously thinking I wasn't going to like the answer. "Kate... She uh, got a bit worried...She wants to come with me to find him but she also wanted you to come along aswell. She says 'accidents can happen'." he was right. I wasn't going to like the answer. "You're letting [i]a human run your life? Come on Jasper! There is no such thing as love!" jasper looked away as if he was expecting this. " I know where to start looking. Sources say that crowd hang around this bar down Millson Street. You know the place?" he asked me, not meeting my gaze. "At the bum side of town? Yeah I know" Jasper nodded, his black hair bouncing. "Meet you tehr at 12"
