Hey, thevoiceinside here :)

I wrote this song for my brother who is serving an LDS mission.
This song's tune is based off of the song, "You Are Everything" by Matthew West
(if you haven't heard "You Are Everything", check it out on youtube.com)

So Tim, here's to you :) I love you!

----------

The Desert Needs The Rain

(quiet guitar strumming)

Like a dream playing in the back of my mind
A day that I never wanted to say goodbye
Holding onto you, not wanting to let go
The day you left was the day [was the day]
That I wished would have never slipped away

My heart was slow to beat
Like the chilling screams
Of agonizing defeat

There’s people out there that are waiting
For someone like you to end all the hating
Breaking them free [setting them free]
From all of their doubts, all of their fears
All of the misery they’ve had all these years

Yes I know you’re needed out there,
But one question still remains
Who will be here to play the role?
You’re my big brother,
My protector,
My hero

Sometimes you just can’t fake
The feeling that
You’re going to break

(guitar takes off)

[Chorus]
I need you here
Like the desert needs the rain
Missing you (repeat), its unbearable pain
But I’m holding on…just holding on
Even though time seems so long

Two years can change your life
When you’re finding the light
And walking the distance,
Helping others win their fight
[win the fight, just win the fight]

Being who God wanted you to be,
It’s because of you, people can see
That this life isn’t bound,
What was lost is now found,
He’ll be there picking you up
Off the ground!
[end Chorus]

(guitar slows into quiet strumming)

Yet the dolor is still spinning
It’s fighting me and I’m not,
Not winning!

Streaming unstoppable tears
I tried to swallow all of my fears
What am I going to do?
There’s no me without you

Cause’ you’re my big brother,
My protector,
My hero

I’ve got my head spinning,
Lost and alone, all on my own
Why am I not winning?

(guitar takes off)

[Chorus]
I need you here
Like the desert needs the rain
Missing you (repeat), its unbearable pain
But I’m holding on…just holding on
Even though time seems so long

Two years can change your life
When you’re finding the light
And walking the distance,
Helping others win their fight
[win the fight, just win the fight]

Being who God wanted you to be,
It’s because of you, people can see
That this life isn’t bound,
What was lost is now found,
He’ll be there picking you up
Off the ground!
[end Chorus]

(guitar solo)

Holding onto you,
Not wanting to let you go

I’ve got my head spinning
Why am I not winning?!

Sometimes I just can’t fake
The feeling that
I’m going to break!

(sweet guitar action)

I need you here
Like the desert needs the rain
Watching and waiting are the sands
For the day when rain will come home
To quench the heart of the desert below

So I’ll wait! [yeah!—]
[win the fight, I’ll win the fight]
I’m holding on…just holding on

Missing you (repeat)
I’m going to win this fight
[missing you, missing you]
Yeah, I’m going to be alright

I’ll wait for you [for you]
Oh oh oh oh!
I’ll wait for you

(words fade out and guitar stops)

Hey there!

I'm not good at critiquing poetry or lyrics. So I'm just basically gonna tell you what I thought of this.

It was beautiful yet so sad. It kinda gave me the shivers as I was reading it. Just by reading this I can tell you miss you brother dearly. I don't know how I would act if my brother went off.

The lines flow nicely together, but I've never heard the song you said you based it off of so I just made my own beat in my head. I really liked this. Gold star.

Happy Writing!

With my three good companions
just my rifle, pony and me

Hey there!

This song really hit the spot for me, so thanks! I think you portrayed those feelings well.
Nothing else to say but gold star, my friend.

Uber gold star.

This is very beautiful. I'm glad I finally had time to read it. You're brother should be proud. There is only one thing I would change, but it is an unecessary personal preference.

Missing you (repeat)
Missing you (repeat)
I'll be alright!
Yes, I'll be alright!

I'd change yes to yea, but that is just something I would do. Defiantly not necessary well done.

Hello there, name's kenzie C:
Personally I enjoyed your song incredibly. Although I'm not a person that can help you see mistakes I like being one that can see the good side of it all. I really loved it, I'm lds and I know how that feels. My dad isn't in our church but, i've experienced the feelings you go through when someone you can call family is gone.

Good job, I really really liked it. (:

Keep writing, you have an amazing talent. ;]

Hey, Voice! Music here. Here to critique, that is.

I loved this song. It was beautiful yet melancholy. Sadly, I haven't heard "You are Everything", so I didn't exactly know how it went. Haha. I loved that you added instrumental descriptions.

You have talent; the ending was beautiful, as was the rest of the song.

Some of my absolute favorite lines were these. Simply perfect:

Being who God wanted you to be, it's
Because of you, people can be set free.

I think you're missing some punctuation in there, but that's about it!

Great job! Gold star!

Love,
Music. :)

5 stars! This was so touching and emotional! The words were very beautiful. You can feel the great love you have for your brother. Matter of fact I imagined Avril Lavigne (I hope I spelt it correctly) singing this song with a slow rock melody. Anyways you deserve the brightest star of all galaxies. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
