I feel like I've been posting in the art section too much... *cough*

Anyway. This one's name is Elena. It started out as a photo June suggested for me to draw. But as usual, I changed the person up a lot. Excuse the crappy scanner. I know that her shoulders are a bit too narrow for her body, and I know her eyes are a little weird looking. But what do you think?

I must say this portrait is quite beautiful.

Let's start with her face (sorry if some of what
I say isn't very clear)...

I think the sides of her nose seem to parallel, if that
makes sense. You need to make where the nose starts
off between her eyebrows a little skinnier

My favorite part of the drawing is the way you shaded her
hair. It appears so realistic.

I think you should have started the sleeves a little lower in
the drawing because where her arm starts is too high up

Her eyes look absolutely magnificent.

Overall, this portrait is absolutely brilliant, and I look forward
to seeing more of your work.

Holly, this is absolutely lovely! The quality is very nice, so you shouldn't worry about your scanner. ^^

I'm extremely impressed with the hair. I personally can never get that to look any good, but you did a fantastic job right here. (It's almost creepy - my hair looks exactly like that right now.) O.O
The lips are very nice too. The creases are nearly perfect, and the chin is so cute! Gives her that kind of youthful feeling, you know?

What can be fixed:
>I kind of like the eyes. It gives her the expression that she's just kind of day dreaming or reminiscing over some happy memory. However, I think they should be just a bit larger.
>The collar bone is shaded a little awkwardly. I would suggest using pictures (or even your own collar bone ^^) as a reference. Trust me, that helps a bunch!
>Slim down the nose. Right now, it is rather square and takes away from the beautiful eyes.
>Yep. Shoulders too narrow. It makes her head and neck look a lot bigger than they actually are. (When sketching, the head should be the sort of unit of measurement, but if the torso is out of proportion, the head appears too big/small.) No worries, though. I always struggle with the upper torso and shoulder area. It's difficult!
>Bring the jawline up a bit. It would be fine the way it is, but since you've shaded the cheekbones a bit higher and at more of an angle, you'll need to bring it up. (Or shade the cheekbones again, lol.) Otherwise, nice job with the face! I thought the forehead was exceptionally good too. ^^

She is gorgeous, really! The only thing I just noticed after staring at her for ages, is the right-hand side of her neck? You see how the left side is like, sort of dimpled-ish? Well, the right side looks a little flattened, dear .


But, I should be quiet, because if this were my drawing, the nose would be near her ears >.>


Also! Her hair and eyebrows = perfect. My eyebrows never, ever look realistic. XD

Wow Holly, this is incredible
Everything about it is perfect; the shading, the bone structure, the spacing. Everything.

I love how there is an almost cartoonish thing about it. Hard to explain, hopefully you get what I mean? I don't make much sense.

The sketchy lines are great too

This is absolutely gorgeous!

-- I don't know why you don't like the eyes. They look normal too me...

-- The hair is very well drawn/realistic.

-- The shading is also amazing (I'm really bad at shading, so kudos to you!)

-- The nose is a bit too prominent. It is mostly just too wide for the girl's face.

-- You mentioned this, but the shoulders really are much too narrow for her body. It makes her head look large and disproportional.

All in all, this was amazingly drawn. Ha, my art reviews are never very helpful. You have a lot of talent and should post more art on here. ^_^

The Instructor who Fails Epically at Reviewing Art

Hello! I adore your scanner. Compared to how my artwork always shows up on the computer, yours is marvelous!

I really do love this portrait. Okay, first I will tell you five things that are well done and then five things that you may need to work on.

Great Aspects
1) That shading is absolutely astonishing. I love it. The way you did the hair is marvelous. I really congratulate you with that.
2) The eyes definitely aren't as bad as you think they are. I really do like them, and you shaded them very well. I love the detail with the eyelashes and the shape of the eyes are perfect.
3) I adore the collar bone. You seem to know that part of the body very well to draw it so well.
4) I also like the lips. They are like what I like to call 'real person lips'. They aren't to thin or to thick.
5) I love the shape of the eyebrows. It gives her a gentle happy feel to her expression.

Satisfactory Aspects
1) Her cheek bone on the one side is a bit off. You need to work with giving her a bit more of a shape to her face.
2) The bridge of her nose should be a bit more smaller. It looks a little wide. Just to remind you with noses is that where the cartilage starts and the bone ends on the nose, there is a slight bulb no matter how prominent or not. That would also help give it a better shape.
3) I agree with you that the shoulders are a bit to narrow, but that it easier to fix. All it does is make her head look bigger.
4) You could have added more natural ripples in her clothing and her chest seems a little off. I think you could fix that up easily if the shoulders were a little more broader.
5) The eyes seem not to be level. That is resulting from the shape of the head. The angles of the face compared to the shape does not match. You just need to fix the cheek bone.

I really did like this portrait. It shows her emotion clearly and I believe this is well done. Just work on those aspects and I think you will do great.

Oh Wow! This is realllllly good! I wish I could draw people that well. I really like how you shaded everything and the hair u did looks amazing! Her eyes are really good, but maybe it would be better if her eyebrow were tilted upward a little more because she is smiling. And, it will make her look *nicer*. Her nose is also a little too straight.

One of the things I like about this picture is that it has a lot of characteristics about it. She looks like a person who you could trust, I think. She has kinda of a caring look to her. Srry this characteristics thing is hard to explain, but if u think about it u will no what I mean... i think...

Its a beautiful picture. The portait kind of reminds me of the' Mona Lisa' because of her smile and such.

You're right that the shoulders are too narrow, and that makes her head look huge. But still, it looks very nice. Her eyes aren't that weird. I'm just being nit-picky here, but I think the right eye is slightly smaller. The reason being his eye lid on the left side is slightly more evident/ larger.

The shading is nice, quite nice, actually.

Oh wow Bittersweet! This is an amazing drawing!

Like wow, her smile is just lovely. The hair looks so realistic it's unbelievable! But yes, her shoulders look way to thin and small. Her eyes look okay, but the left one looks slightly different than the other. Perhaps it's more darker. Her nose seems too straight and takes away the beauty of everything else.

But, this is amazing! Excellent job! *Gold Star*
