Veru lauighed within his mind. A rich, boisterous laugh that would have rolled from his tongue, had it existed outside of his mind and the thoughts he shared with Serai.
Let the poor fool pass, he must think I require him to change my dressing. You would think these men would have a higher expectation of riders.
Serai, who stood guard outside the wide alcove that served as a chamber for her wounded rider gave a great snort, releasing a plume of smoke toward the physician who stood plaintively before her. She sidled to the left, allowing the terrified man to access Veru.
"Sir you appear much better than I had...anticipated." The man mumbled, clutching at the bandages he brought, which appeared now to be pointless.
Veru waived it off, though he barely moved from his reclining position. "It is the way of magic, I can draw upon my reserves without fear, as long as I pace myself. Once the initial threat had passed, there was little danger."
The man bowed. He wore long sweeping robes and brown tresses, and for an instant Veru thought there was a smirk on his face, but it dissappeared without a trace, almost as if he had imagined it. "My Lord Rider's powers astound. Is there a matter in which a servant may be of assitance?"
Veru paused, wondering whether to follow up on this man's suspicious character. In a moment of curiousity he probed the servant's mind, only to come up against walls as hard as iron. Rather than probe harder and risk discovery, he let the matter drop. Three arrows to the back might be enough to breed disquiet, but it was certainly no excuse for discourtesy.
"I was informed there was a cache of eggs headed from Dras-Leona to Du Weldenvarden, is this the case?"
The servant seemed surprised at Veru's knowledge, "There is...my lord."
"Very well, inform whoever is in charge of the cache's security that it shall not depart without the security that only a rider can provide, the security that only I can provide."
"My lord..." The servant began to object.
"No, those are my orders, go." Veru finished. He was tired of this man, he did not trust him enough to endure another moment of his company. Serai agreed, and gave a loud snort, scraping the stone floor of the sanctuary with her claws.
The servant scurried away.
This will not do, the eggs are in danger. We must find an ally who is beyond whatever threat is looming, an ally unallied with the Riders and thus beyond the corruption I fear may take root in their ranks. Veru opined.
Indeed Grumbled Serai, eyeing the servant as he scuttled away, as a hawk might eye a squirrel.

*Just double checking, the egg train is heading from dras-leona to du weldenvarden, right?*
So you're going to kill a god. Sure. But what happens next?

*Correct Rubric, but not for another month if ridersofdamar's first post is any indication*

Naria-

I walked up to the girl. "Once we get your name, we'll be off."

"Talneri Iorasdaughter," she said quickly. "Yours?"

"I'm Naria, my dragon is Dylis."

She bowed. "An honour to meet you both."

I fingered the diamond on my sword hilt. "Dylis has convinced me to ride with you while we go over the Spine. Just make sure to hold onto my waist. Your packs can go in mine."

Talneri nodded sharply and did as she was told. It felt strange having somebody else behind me on the saddle.

Ready to go? I asked Dylis, glad to be back into mind-speak.

Ready

Dylis lurched into the air, slowly gaining altitude. Her rest had done wonders, and now she could fly without any danger. I could feel the air get thinner as we climbed. I looked down at the forest out of habit; the dangers and wonders of the Spine had always intrigued me.

If you jump down I'll lick you from head to toe.

I flinched and straitened. Her tongue was covered in barbs. Not something I would like to be touched with. I wasn't planing on jumping.

Good!

The rest of the flight was uneventful. It was only a day to Dras Leona, and Dylis wasn't having a problem with the extra load. As we neared the city I felt another touch to my mind.

I quickly closed my thoughts, sending out a mental probe. I was met with a defence so strong it would be impossible to break.

I closed my mind off completely, not wanting to risk anything. As we landed a servant came to me.

"There is another Rider here, injured."

I sucked in a breath. Is that who I sensed? It had to be....

I jerked a nod. "Take me to him." I motioned to Talneri. "Follow me."

*Rubric- I noticed you said "unallied with the Riders," but my character doesn't exactly like them either. ;) She's more worried about the safety of the people/eggs then any sort of protocol. Ie- You can trust her.*

*we can change the time, I wasn't really sure how long they stayed. Whatever moves the story along*

I heard the commotion outside and woke up immediately. I grabbed my sword from the bed post and ran to the window. Another Dragon was circling the city. Whats going on here? I thought.

I threw on my coat and a pair of pants and ran to the front gates. The dragon was talking to a servant. I only glanced at the dragon, but the rider was interesting. She had cat like features. The girl behind her seemed almost awestruck. I sturuggled to hide a smile as I got closer.

When I was ten feet away I dropped into a crouch and bowed my head*. "My lady. I'm here to escort you to the Aviary if thats where you wish to go."

The dragon sniffed, and I gathered that she wanted to know who I was. I lowered my barriers and the dragon sifted through my mind for a quick second before leaving.

"Where should I take you my Lady?"

Then I noticed that the other man was looking at me strangely, "I was about to take her to see the other Rider that came yesterday."

I nodded concent, "Well, if I am not needed I will go and check on the eggs, and make sure that all is well.

*Im not sure if that's the proper way to adress a Rider but...*

Dylis watched through half closed eyes as Naria and Talneri jogged out of the courtyard and down a long, fire lit hall. Too large to follow, Dylis lowered her body to the ground and put her head on a nearby fountain. It didn't do very well as a pillow, but it would have to do until Naria and the girl returned.

Pretending to drift into the dream realm, Dylis listened to the whispering of the many people who walked past her, mentally poking fingers towards her and attempting to decide the true meaning of the dragon riders. Were they good, or were they evil? Would they truly benefit Alagaesia; a land that was already peaceful? Peaceful for humans, that was.

For the elves, Alagaesia was still anything but peaceful. Only one-hundred-and-fifty years after the war between them and Dylis' race, the all powerful dragons, there was still a small majority of dragons, and elves, that despised the idea of their partnership. Nevertheless, life continued on. Surely, someone wouldn't be happy about that; and someone definitely wasn't.

Dylis roared loudly as an arrow pierced her right wing. Jumping into the air above the infirmary, she ignored the throbbing gape in her wing and raised her body higher, only to be hit by another arrow. She felt two different consciousnesses slamming against the defensive wall that blocked her mind from anyone but Naria, and now Talneri.

Dylis strengthened her defences against her unknown attackers. Flying higher, Dylis searched for Naria with her mind; but was forcibly stopped by another arrow to her left wing and the constant drumming of hostile attempts against the mental barrier she struggled to hold up. Reluctantly, Dylis let a fraction of her pain surge through her mental barrier with Naria.

Dyl- Naria started in her mind, but was soon cut off. The futile attacks on her mental barrier were wearing Dylis down, and she knew that if she kept her mind open to Naria and Talneri, her attackers would use them to get into Dylis' mind. She did the only thing she could; she closed her mind off of any contact.

Summoning a burst of strength, Dylis flew where her injured wings directed her as quickly as she could. Helgrind loomed over her body as she flew past it, over the walls of Dras Leona and back into the Spine. Hopefully here her attackers wouldn't look for her, and hopefully here, neither would Naria. Dylis would return, and she hoped desperately that Naria would trust her to do so.

Dylis set to waiting for her wings to heal, content to get the job done before she even thought about returning to Naria and the imfirmary. That was, until, she heard a rustling in the bushes.
Anti-Peta.

Name: Ringo Tori

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Body Structure: Tall, lanky, his still hasn't gotten wider shoulders yet giving him a thing frame. He has unsually long and lithe legs and arms, but he walks with a strange stumble unuse to the ease of which his body moves. However he has nicely proportioned muscles.

Appearance: Black hair, red eyes. (I think I put most of it in Body Structure)

Personality: The awkward teeanger, still unuse to the hormones raging through his body he is strangely aloft in his own mind. He can be not paying attention even if you are shouting in his face and his thinkings tends= to wander. Ringo is a country boy and seeing big things makes him gawk. If he overcomes his awkwardness he is a sweet person who has a strange sense of humour and amazing honesty. He has a slightly quirky side which can charm people to him.

History: Like I said, a country boy. Grew up on a farm with his father. His mother is unknown. A normal, awkward, country teenager. Taught by a wanderng bard he took an instant liking of maths. He also grew up around no women so he is very obselete when it comes to dealing with them. He'll most likely just blush and ramble. His father died a natural death and knowing he couldn't tend the farm himself he sold it and left for adventure.

Likes: Animals, nature, (country boy) and surprsingly fire. He has had a weird obsession with it ever since he saw his first bonfire. He also likes to laugh and cause mischief. ANd Maths.

Dislikes: Death, destruction. The usual things people hate.

Strengths: Is fairly strong because of farm labour and he has a mathematicians mind.

Weaknesses: Cannoi abide the smell of death or the sound of pain. He will die like any other normal human if stabbed with a sword, (that is normal human weakness there. ^^)

Other Attributes: A scar on his left arm stretching from the tip of his index finger all the way to the curve of his shoulder. He doesn't like to talk about how he got it.

Other: Up for love,or infatuation . . . ^^

[The Ember Embryo]

Two-leg minds, the Ember Embryo observed from the limited brushes of consciousness, are like a droplet of water- swirling and focusing in on stupid details, but become agitated when anything upsets them. Then, when the pressure is too great, they simply burst and spray the ground below with a spatter of meaningless intelligence.

The Ember Embryo's dragonlet body had shifted when someone bumped him, so that gravity was on top of his head, and he was in a bad mood. Not only was he incredibly bored with the predictable minds of the humans who simpered at him as they passed, he was also depressed and lonely because he knew his stubborness was preventing a lot of things.

I'll not have a weak-liquid-water-two-leg-Rider! I want one that writhes with the mind-fire and sparks and... The baby dragon lost his train of thoughts. I might as well have a dragon Rider, he mused sarcastically.

Once more the strength of the hatch-binding spell placed on his egg-prison by the pointy-eared-two-legs seared upon him, quavering with the shimmering ripple of magic. Instinct plus spell drove him to hatch, but personal preference counteracted this. And so I am at an impasse. Until a Rider proves themselves.

***Ach, he's too smart! One thing Paolini didn't elaborate on: how intelligent and aware the dragons are in their egg. I promise a Talneri post soon, btw.**

I need to post again. Before I get lost. :P

Naria-

I could feel unease from Dylis. We were still within the limits of our range. She was blocking her mind from mine. I could feel it.

Suddenly I stopped as pain racked my body. What was minor for her wasn't minor for me.

[i]Dylis![/b] Our bond was severed before I could finish. She had been attacked, I knew it. Possibly by the same person that had attacked the other Rider. I felt the pull of my friendship with her drawing me away, but it would be madness to think that I could run back to wherever she had gone. I needed the other Rider to tell me more, and I needed a way to get to Dylis safely.

I gritted my teeth and continued to follow our guide.

Okay, well - this seems to have stopped . . .

Ringo Tori

Glancing around he wondered silently how he had gotten where he was. After selling the farm he had wandered getting the odd job here and there, slowly understanding the complexities of the world.

But the one thing he really didn't get was women. Even the thought of them put a confused frown on his face and he shook it off with a lazy smile. He probably would never understand them either.

Stumbling through the bushes of what people called the Spine what he saw made his mouth fall wide open. His eyes nearly exploded form his skull that they went so wide. A fly buzzing past entered his mouth and snapping him out of his shocked trance he spat manically onto the floor.

The creature stared at him, danger glinting in its eyes. After frantically trying to get the fly he had nearly swallowed out of his mouth he turned to the creature again. His initial reaction was repeated but with less intensity.

He stood there staring at the dragon with a wing out stretched and a hole in it. Ringo took a deep breath and closed his eyes, counted to ten and then opened them again. Perhaps he thought that he was suffering from sleep deprivation and thus seeing things that weren't there.

But as his eyes locked back on the form of the dragon, he opened his mouth and screamed, "ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

The dragon stared at him a vacant look of amusement on its face. It obviously thought Ringo posed no threat to it. After regaining composure and forcing himself not to run off back into the forest he slowly approached the large creature.

He loved animals, though he knew that dragons were hardly animals they reminded him of lizards - his favourite pets. A familiarity encompassed him and aware that he was probably walking towards his deah he straightened his spine, pull his shoulders back and held his chin high.

A wary expression was worn on the dragons face and Ringo gawked at the being while still getting closer.

He took a deep breath, "Are you okay?"

While waiting for its answer, a thought popped into his head, Other than women, there's probably only one thing I will never understand.

A smile popped onto his face, Dragons.
