Matt~~
If I had any doubts as to whether or not this was May, they were gone now. I pulled back from the kiss and looked at her.
"I like the new look."
She laughed a little, "Thanks. Where'd all the anger go?"
I grimaced, "nowhere. But... I don't care. I don't care what happened." I said as I pulled her through the window. "I just want to know why you didn't call me or something. Anything."
She looked down, "My dad wouldn't let me", she looked up again, "He likes you, a lot, but I'm all he really has, he would do anything to protect me. Even if it meant hurting you. I only barely convinced him to let me come back to school. And I'm not even supposed to be here for another two months."
"Protecting from what?"
"From the family who shot me. It was a rival wine company. So, my dad mad it look like I was dead, and created a new identity for me, new name, new look, and new family..." she hesitated, "Sort of. Same people, but they are different too, only when they are in that role though."
"Sounds complicated."
She smiled her May smile and gave me another kiss. It felt weird to actually feel anything after such a long time of nothing.
When she pulled back I asked a question that had been bothering me for a while, "What are we going to do about all the others. They've missed you a lot."
"Well we cant tell them yet."
"I assumed so. Well," I sighed, "If thats the case, then we need to go somewhere where we cant be walked in on. It wouldn't be appropriate if the heartbroken Matt was with another girl so soon after May's death." I tried to be funny, but it just sounded flat and morbid to me. "See if you can keep up."
Then I jumped out the window.
