THE BRIGHT LIGHTS

this poem kinda sounds like a rap, and should be said fast. it's kinda wild, and rather unconventional, but i'm still proud of it :)

the bright lights
oh honey the bright lights
tonight, i am just the flutter of wings
tonight, i can feel everything

and i'll be leavin you
if you believe in this
i can't believe
you would leave me like this
and uh
i believed in you and had to compete with this

generation
in need of some ventilation
starvation
and we're the ones driving the change in the nation?
forgive me, but i cant hear it, and i cant see it
the bright lights
honey, the bright lights

symptoms may include blindness
bow down to them, like your royal highness
make you seem at your finest
if you aren't here you just dont feel it
and more importantly theres too much to steal it
away

the bright lights
oh, bright lights,
they're all you can see
sometimes i wish for them to shine on me
basking, it would be so sunshiney

but i know better
you've got no shame
skip through your life, it's just a game
each friend a stepping stone on your walk to fame
nothing is private and nothing is personal cuz they shine so bright
light
dont put up a fight
they said you'll be in LA by tonight

enlist
enroll
this is the time
bliss
extol
no reason but rhyme

your name, they're cheering
in an alley, pain is still searing
no one hides
the bright lights
i can see everything
the bright lights
the crowd is waiting
they've wanted you
they'll eat you up
and split you into
bits
and pieces
but this is all you really needed
fame
you played it like a game
the lion i guess you made it tame
but the crowd still feels the same
they wait:
they can see you
and it's time to bid them adieu
cause
you're on a stretcher
but it's not wretched
you're a star
i'll remember them closing you in
the back of the car
emergency room
overdose: mushrooms.
oh, sweetie. the bright lights.
you didn't even put up a fight.

the now is all you have
cause the past has passed,
the future is just a false-craft.

and you'll live how you choose to
i guess i never could help you

the bright lights
we never started these fights
the crowd leaves you with bites
i'll remember
as the time i watched your kite
fly away, i did what was right.
can't sleep till you turn off the light.

good night.
Kisba

The intonation was marvelous. I'm not quite one to critique poetry . . . or maybe I'm just blinded by the deeper meaning in "Bright Lights". :]

It did in fact sound like a rap, with the story-telling akin to a country song.

The way you spaced out your lines and phrases to make the reader read it like you wanted them to was good. You commanded your poems "presence".

I'm sure there are flaws, but I can't see them. Good Job!!!!
live like there's no tomorrow, dream like you'll live forever.

be the change you wish to see in the world

I think the best thing about making it into the quote generator is when nobody tells you, so one day you're just scrolling and voila, some phenomenally inane thing that crawled out of your dying synapses and immediately regretted being born the second it made contact with the air has been archived for all time. Or worse, a remark of only average inanity. Never tell me when you've put me in the generator. Pride-tinged regret just doesn't taste the same without the spice of surprise.
