I just called you selfish
Wholly unbroken but absorbing patience.
I hurl hoarse blames and cries that had staled since we’d begun.
Backbreak effort in trying to stay scarlet and trying
To fade to blue.
Vaccuum stirs the air, retracting crustacean-quick
to the pronged inner shells.
And I’ll wait here until you return or I do,
To puff and heave the air back in.
We smile spitfire jokes in memorized patterns
And forget to enjoy this feeling, that one, that happy…
Then
The red balloon started with a fissure,
Rubber peeled from the raw breath, a swirling sphere
That seared my bruises and flared on your cuts
And pressed the bellows to ignite and switch
To Dictaphone <play>
“Its not my fault.”
I just called you selfish…
Waited, for empty space to fill
And for blank spaces to be spoken,
I didn’t want this.
You crawled on tentative legs,
And I caught the fluttering pieces
Tied us back together.
could this be classed as an inner monolgue?
hmm...i think its more focused on the relationship than a sense of personality, but i guess its in first person...
