Hope this chapter reveals something.
I didn't give you all the details of the 'secret',
But I will, as the story progresses.
This is entirely Nate's POV or a third person view.
I would appreciate reviews to help me improve because I have problems presenting the story nicely :)
----------
The moment her name slipped out of the teacher’s mouth, I'd have gladly thanked the person who would be willing to beat me to death with a microscope.

She mumbled a shy greeting, and I permitted myself the slightest of nods, just to acknowledge her and avoid seeming impolite.

Throughout Miss Watkins’ lecture, I tried to slowly inch my chair further and further away from her, till I was at the edge of the table. It took me all my willpower to override my curiosity and not steal quick peeks at her.

I needed to get away from her, even for the shortest of seconds, just to escape. I needed to get a hold on myself.

Seizing the opportunity as the teacher asked us to fetch some materials from her table; I paused and took a deep breath. Getting up, I walked past her and headed to the teacher’s table, carefully avoiding brushing my arm against her glossy brown hair as I passed behind her. I didn’t look at her.

I kept my distance as we completed our assignment, refraining from coming I contact with her. I wasn’t taking any chances in my current state.

Then Miss Watkins had to make everything harder for me, asking her to take off her sweater.

I saw Nathan’s jaw drop and eyes pop upon looking at her. Nathaniel’s face had changed to a deepest discernable shade of red I could think of, and his face wore a weird expression I could not figure out.

My breath became stuck in my throat when I saw her without her sweater. She was wearing a beautiful lilac dress. It clung to her in all the right places, and the colour complemented her fair and flawless complexion. Normally, it would make other girls look like whores, but on her, she looked sweet and stunningly gorgeous. Best of all, I was the one sitting right next to her.

Ah, hell. Shut up already, Nate, you stupid moron. Just shut up.

After tidying up our table in uncomfortable silence, I hurriedly arranged my biology materials and writing implements, preparing to rush out the moment the bell sounded.

Immediately stashing my worksheet into the tray as soon as the bell rang and Miss Watkins gave the green light, I bolted out of the lab and away from Melody before I lost my mind entirely.

Her name was Michelle Travers.

His name was Nate Peyton.

The two were voted as Velentia Junior High’s ‘Most likely to get married’ couple, but the result was more different than anyone could have imagined.

They had a crush on each other since they were eleven, and they finally went out officially, a year and a half later.

He thought he was in love, she thought she was too.

In his eyes, she was perfect. Her silky honey golden hair gleamed brightly in the sun, forming a halo around her head, making her look positively angelic. She was svelte and her movements graceful, moving around lightly as a ballerina. Her wavy hair framed a set of sparkling ocean blue eyes and her smile was simply breathtaking. Her mood was infectious. When she smiled, he smiled along with her.

She thought he was her handsome prince charming. She loved everything about him. His brilliant and expressive emerald green eyes, his captivating smile, his attractively tousled brown hair, his strapping body. She was completely drawn to him.

It was a common sight to see the girl sashaying down the hallway, her dainty arm delicately linked with the boy’s, inciting envy in all girls who laid eyes on her.

Likewise, you would frequently see the boy ambling around the campus with his arm lovingly wrapped around the girl’s petite waist, rousing jealousy in all the passing boys.

So how did this couple, constantly christened as ‘destined for each other’, fall apart, and in such a terrible manner?

Their one year anniversary was an expensive affair. A posh candlelight dinner by the sea, showers of costly gifts and numerous declarations of love. The boy was still young, not even in high school, but he would have married the girl in a heartbeat if it were legal at his age.

Such delusions.

It was only a week after the memorable event, and he felt the time was right. The boy had been terribly afraid and hesitant of revealing his biggest secret, but he now believed that he could trust the girl completely.

On that Friday night, the couple sat down on a park bench, their arms entwined. In the soft glow of the moonlight, the girl was exquisitely lovely. The boy would never cease to be amazed by her beauty, gazing at her with limitless adoration.

Under that moonlight, the boy whispered his most well-kept secret to the girl he loved, anticipating the surprise or joy she would feel. There was a pregnant pause and neither said a word, the girl’s face devoid of emotion.

Then, she opened her mouth and laughed. It wasn’t a joyful laugh, it was a mocking laugh mixed with anger and disappointment.

He would never forget the words she spoke to him.

“I don’t want a girl, a sissy boy who does this stuff. I want a man, Nate. I can’t believe you would withhold this crucial information from me for so long. If I had known, I would never have-… You know what, it’s late, I have to go.”

She left without so much as a goodbye, her golden hair glowing, forming a halo around an angel not fit to wear it.

The boy sat there in stunned silence, shocked that it took only a few sentences to end a year long relationship. He had given his heart to a girl he loved entirely, only to find out that her love was superficial; an illusion.

On the following Monday, he dared not approach the girl in school. She was flipping her hair at a muscular jock, laughing gaily at something he said, resting her slender fingers on his shoulder.

It was over. He couldn’t believe it, but it was.

That night, the boy sat on his spacious bed, looking at pictures of the girl who he thought loved him. Notebooks and papers that were chucked forcefully at the wall lay scattered and crumpled on the floor.

He never wanted to love again.

As he tried to pick up the pieces of his broken heart, a single tear slid from the boy’s cheek and landed softly onto his pillow.

The barrier I had so carefully built to protect myself was slowly eroding away. I was becoming vulnerable. I was losing my grip on myself.

I couldn’t avoid it, couldn’t help it. It just happened.

I was scared, afraid to travel down that path again. I didn’t want to face the crippling disappointment I was subjected to, over a year ago. I wouldn’t be able to take the misery.

My parents told me time would heal all scars. Well, I needed more time to heal the scars left behind. I wasn’t ready to start anew and forget the past. I couldn’t let go.

Why was it that she had to be the one to hit me at my weakness, when I did not even know what my weakness was?

Heck, listen to me. I wasn’t even making any sense.

In spite of this, as much as I wanted to deny it, to prevent it, I was steadily and inevitably falling for the beautiful and fragile Melody Keyes.

Gah. You suprised me. Wow.
What you said at the beginning made no sense to me. Part of it was in Nate's POV in first person. The middle part was in third person.

She mumbled a shy greeting, and I permitted myself the slightest of nods, just to acknowledge her and avoid seeming impolite.

You don't need that comma between greeting and and.

Getting up, I walked past her and headed to the teacher’s table, carefully avoiding brushing my arm against her glossy brown hair as I passed behind her. I didn’t look at her.

Carefully avoiding doesn't sound right. Maybe careful to avoid...

That's all I caught in this piece. I thought you presented this very well. In the middle part, I was going, "Aw.... Poor Nate."

But what's the secret? You told us one secret which led to another secret which led to another secret etc. etc. etc.

Another good job and PM me if you have any questions. ^_^

Argh! Cat, how are you so quick?

Sorry, I really can't help you with commas. I'm comma-happy myself.

I feel so bad for Nate. When you said that he was going to share his little secret with Michelle I really thought he was going to say he was a vampire. Since I was anticipating that so much, when she reacted I was thinking, Wait, WHAT??? Silly me, once again.

You had some nice details and descriptions in here, but maybe your flashback could have been written better. Try not to make your flash-backs data-dumps for the reader, because they get boring real fast. Instead, fit it in with small details that give us the same emotion and information.

Anyway, good job! You probably could have fit this into fewer words instead of re-writing the last chapter in Nate's POV, but it was enjoyable. My only advice is to keep away from data-dumps. Can't wait for chapter 12, because hopefully I'll be the first to review! :D

Cut out the middle bit of Nate's past and let it seep in slowly throughout the story, like for example Nate bumping into her on the way home or something or hearing a rumour about her...just anything that would make it less obvious.
I'm glad you're starting to develop the characters now, and I like the contrast between the triplets. Good job!

Sorry about that.
I seem to be leading you from one secret to another.
