Chapter Two:
Dressed in my pink dress and pink flip-flops, I walked down the stairs to the kitchen.
“Morning, honey,” Mom chirped.
“You seem happy this morning. What happened last night?”
She shook her head giving me a really funny feeling. Why was she trying to hide that smile? Did she have a little too much fun last night if you get my drift?
“You didn’t…?”
“No, I didn’t. Skye, honest.”
Sure, I thought. And I’m Santa Clause. Get real. But to make her think I believed her, I let out a fake sigh of relief.
“Which brings up a point. Next time they come over for dinner you’re staying,” she said, gravely.
“If I don’t have a gig or have to work, right?” I picked up my books from off the table and walked away.
A car horn went off as I reached the front door. I went outside and climbed into the passenger’s seat of Glenn’s car.
“Hey, baby,” he said, before kissing me on the cheek
“Hey.”
Glenn put the car in reverse. “When’s our next gig?”
“Friday at the Back to School Dance,” I answered. “I just hope I don’t have to work.”
“We’re a Christian band. They aren’t going to want us.”
He pulled the car to a halt.
“That’s what I told Principal Latish when he told me, but he still signed us up for it.”
Blane’s car drove up beside us at the stoplight. We looked at each other with displeasure and turned away. He was sitting with his arm around Bobbi who by what I could tell was talking nonstop about something that he didn’t even care about.
“Hey, there’s Blane Sweetnam and Bobbi Corrans,” my boyfriend said, taking my hand in his.
“His dad and my mom are dating.”
“That’s interesting.”

Glenn and I walked into the school hand in hand. Blane and Bobbie who had arrived the same time we did were doing just the same; he knocked my books out of my hands. I glared at them as my boyfriend bent down and picked them up.
“Skye, guess what?” a voice I knew so well asked. Darla ran up to me.
“I give up.”
“I’ve got lyrics to a new song.”
She thrust a piece of paper towards me as Clark commented; “She thinks it’s a great for the dance on Friday.”
The title was Pentagram. I couldn’t read anymore and handed the paper back to her.
“Well?” she questioned. “What do you think?”
“I’m not singing that.”
“But they aren’t going to like our original music so we need something else,” Clark complained before saying, “I’m not saying we should sing that but maybe perhaps something besides Christian.”
Glenn grabbed the paper out of Darla’s hands and read it. A look of disgust immediately spread across his face. “Are you crazy? We can’t sing this.”
He crumbled the lyrics into a ball. He threw the ball to the floor and stomped on it; he grabbed my hand. “Come on, Skye. Let’s get to class.”
I allowed him to pull me away. But once we were far enough away for them not to hear us I said, “I cannot believe they expected us to sing that horrid song.”
“It was mostly Darla, but yeah I agree. That was a horrible song.”
Once I was seated in geometry, I pulled out my notebook to think of a song that perhaps we could sing at the dance. Anything was better than Pentagram. But surprisingly the only thing I ended up writing down was the name Blane Sweetnam.

At lunch I found myself looking at Blane and it startled me greatly. Why am looking at my biggest enemy? The only thing that pulled me out of my thoughts was when Glenn sat down in front of me with a worried look on his face asking, “Skye, you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. I was just thinking.”
He kissed me on the lips quickly before any of the teachers noticed, but Blane saw. He came over to us commenting, “I wonder if our parents have gotten that far yet.”
He hit the table with his fist and began walking away. “I bet they got very far after the way my dad was talking about your mom this morning…says she’s one hott little number.”
“Blane!”
Now I was angry…No. Wait. I was furious. No one was going to get away with talking about my mom like that.
He turned around to face me. “What?”
“Ask your girlfriend what she was doing trying on my style of clothes last night. I’d really like to know because she kind of sounds like a fake,” I sneered with an evil smile. This caused his face to turn dark and he flipped me off.
“No, thanks,” I then replied. “I’d prefer someone who isn’t so…you.”
“It wasn’t an offer.”
“Good because I wouldn’t want to with you.”
“Same here.”
I turned my attention back to Glenn who was looking at me as if seeing me for the first time. Unfortunately, Blane wasn’t finished with me yet.
“Hey!” He said, stomping over to the table and leaned across it. His face was only inches away from mine. “Just wait until the next time we’re forced to be alone together.”
“After our parents break up we won’t have a reason. Which brings up a point. I’m breaking them up.”
“You?”
“Yes, me.”
Glenn stood up and glared at Blane, saying, “I believe this conversation has gone far enough.”
“Oh, really?” Blane grabbed hold of his shirt and continued, “Yeah, it has. Oh and do me a favor. Tame your girlfriend before I have to.”
I gasped. He is unbelievable! I wanted to tell him to fall off the face of the earth, but of course, I never follow my first impulses. Last time I did…well, my father kind of kidnapped me.

Again not my best but tell me what ya think....

Generally speaking, a howling wilderness does not howl: it is the imagination of the traveler that does the howling.
