Loss of Imagination

Grey is all I see,
A lack of imagination
Four walls that block me in,
To make a transformation.
From ignorant to intelligent,
Or is it the other way around?

When others ask how,
I want to know why,
I’ll keep my vow.
I’ll be different somehow.
My identity is mine,
Although you try to make it clandestine.

You pile us with work,
And tell us to study,
Pen and paper lurks,
No time to talk to a buddy.
Childhood is lost,
The imagination holocaust.

Creativity is taken away,
Work is given everyday,
Imagination is cruelly slain.
Regurgitation of information reigns.
Individuality runs through my veins.
I want to escape.

ha ha! i love this one. it is so true (most of the time) but you add some punctuation and let it flow better.

these are my favorite lines b/c we do just that, regurgitate facts for tests and then forget the info. you really do have too much time on your hands if you are writing poetry about school Kaylyn! (jk)

heh, i feel the same way about school. i am a completely out of the box person, while doing well in school requires that i be within said box. but enough about me, and more about the poem.

i actually thought that it was a pretty good one. i've read your other stuff, and i like this one a lot better. i really think that you're improving. good job.

I'll tell you this -

Grammar! It's a no wonder you don't like school! ;)

Even though I disagree with your message, it is, at least, presented well with this poem.

You teetered the 'angst' line very thinly. But, nevertheless, it wasn't so emotional so it worked well.

Ok, it needs some ponctuation, but apart from that it was great, and very true.

Creativity is taken away

Work is given everyday

Imagination is cruelly slain

Regurgitation of information reigns

Individuality runs through my veins

I want to escape.

This is my favourite part.

Really well done.

Very, very true. I personally have teachers who tell us to do thre ditto sheets, then sit quietly, calmly, and in our seat for the next 25 minutes. Staring at gray walls really isn't great for your sanity either. In the poem, the one mistake I could find was the lack of punctuation, but the could be just a stylistic thing.

Loved the last verse.
So much.

But I completely disagree with the concept of the poem; maybe we just go to different schools, but I love mine! I think that school isn't a place that blocks imagination, but more a place which helps you learn ways of implimenting that creativity better. You've got years ahead of you to be creative, and school is just showing you HOW!

Plus it's kinda fun.

I have the last verse of this poem going round and round and round and round my head.
I likies it mucho.

i hav to agree with the message of it. maybe its just my school... but the new principal this year is taking our freedom of speech and freedom to wear pretty much what we want away. she's even banned ipods and mp3 players from class.
so i can relate to this poem alot, especially lately with all the work we've had.
very well done :D
keep on writing! :D
