The Road not taken

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Im not very great with poetry, so if what I say next sounds stupid don't judge me.

Okay I read this poem and I got the gist of it, then the second time I got more meaning from it. I am confused about the whole yellow road though. What is that reffering to?

My understanding of this poem was that the path was like the road of life and the two roads meeting were like the choices which people encounter during life.

The rest I am not too sure about.

This poem is misinterpreted a lot because people don't read into it, I think. A lot of people use the last lines as a sort of proverb, like, 'Take the road less traveled by, it's good.' But what Frost really says is that the roads were traveled about the same, but that after he had made the decision, he would say that he took the one less traveled by. I like that dimension.

Frost reminiscencing about what WOULD HAVE BEEN had he taken a different road at some past juncture of his life.

I took it as this as well. The poem is ok, I liked Mending Wall better.
