I know

I know the Moon Lady

The flapping wings of a dragonfly
The rough humming engine of a boat
Laughter of mocking strangers
Giggling of one and two

I know the woman who lives by the stars

Soft silk of a tiger
Sparkling light in the sky
Rushing red water before the attack of the snake

I know the Lady of the Moon

I smell the scent of fresh moon cake
And deep crimson turtle blood

I know the woman who lost her husband

Amah says, “ A girl can never ask only listen.”
My mother advises me, “ A boy can run and chase dragonflies , because it is his nature. But a girl should stand still. If you are still for a very long time, a dragon fly will no longer see you. Then it will come to you and hide in the comfort of your shadow.”

I know the ruler of the moon.

I think that the beginning two lines should be merged. The 'I know" is a little to repetitive. I know that honors English poems can be a little daft though because nobody wants their emotion splayed out for a teacher to criticize. But I wouldn't consider it a poem that many people will want to read. No offense it was a homework assignment, not a real poem. You could have made it into one, but you didn't it wasn't a subject you could do much with anyways. And let off on the enter key please, to many spaces.

No it is not a poem. But my teacher liked it very much he gave me five extra points, I just wanted to a real opinion. Thank you.

p.s.- The assigment was called a " I know" poem, hence the reason I over used it ahaha. JackBauerHasBaldSpot did a better job then me Im sure...
"Show us, don't tell us!" They say, but sadly I realize I'm a storyteller. When I cross over and accept maturity, when I want to change then maybe I'll be willing to show people my prose and not tell them. As a writer I have to grow. :)

I think this is something you should work on developing this more. Even though it was and assignment, it has the potential to become a real and engaging poem. Develop your character more and give the reader some feeling to work with.
How hard can it be to just let go and drift away with the wind?
