Peyton
She took a seat at the table, but didn't answer the question. The two sat in a bit of silence for a few moments. She knew he didn't really want an answer--not to mention he already knew what it would be. It was more of a "how are you?" derogatory question that relatives ask each other to be polite, no one really wants to know the answer. Peyton just decided she would lie, she just wouldn't answer.
She crossed her legs beneath the table and watched as Lucas shut his book and crossed his hands on top of it. They linked eyes and his blue hues seemed to sink deep within hers. If Lucas had been a stranger, she would have sworn he was judging her by her eyes. But, she knew him better. He didn't need the eyes anymore.
"So, what is going on?" Peyton asked, truly curious...but really only for the answer she wanted. She really had not planned on things turning out this way. Yes, she loved him, but she did not mean to break up his wedding and come between them. Lindsey just happened to be the inconvenience in the picture.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket. She pulled it out and examined the caller ID. Brooke. She'd call her back shortly. She silenced the vibration and set her phone on the table, looking back at Lucas for an answer.
