Sara sighed after she put the pump back. She walked to the store to pay for the gas, maybe fetch a soda, when a girl was hurrying out the door, breathless. Sara's brow furrowed and paused, watching the strange girl straddle her bike.
Sara rolled her eyes and walked into the building. She walked up to the counter and pursed her lips when there was no one there. Putting her hands on her hips, she called out, "Hey, get someone by the register! I gotta get going!"
No one came out. Sara's eyes shrank with irritation. She took her anger out on the cooler, throwing the door open for a soda when it slammed into the boy who walked inside. Sara didn't mutter an apology; only closed the door and took a drank. "I need service!" Sara said stubbornly.
The boy eyed the black telephone on the desk, then looked around the shop. Then his eyes landed on Sara, cocking his brow. "It'll be another moment, I'm sure."
"I don't have another moment," Sara snapped, refusing to look at the idiot disturbing her. She took another swig from her coke.
