The Cage

The bird and I stared at each other.

She flew rapidly around the cage as I tried to feed her.

She screamed and flew and screamed and flew

Until I couldn't take it anymore.

I opened the window then the cage.

She flew towards the sky,

So high that I couldn't see her again.

As I watched, I was thinking

When will I be free?

When will I get out of my cage?

If only I could fly.....

If only I could fly.

i like this. i really like the imagery. it gives you a clear picture of the scenario in your head. i like how you tied the person and bird together.

Hi blacktiger--

I understand what you are getting at on this poem.

However, how do I understand it you ask? Because you tell me exactly what is going on in this poem! Part of the beauty of poetry is the mystery within the words. How can you symbolize that you believe you aren't free by using the bird but not flat out saying "When will I be free?". This is the magic of similie and metaphor usage--to say something without actually saying something. The reader needs to find his/her own way in deciphering the theme of the poem...this can't happen if the author spells it out for them! :]

Also...don't doublespace, it's just weird looking and breaks the flow.

Happy Editing!
