MAKE SURE YOU READ THE STORY BEFORE POSTING! IT IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK! :]

Well, I thought because there is so much hype about the newly released Golden Compass film (which is awesome), we should do a storybook!

But, this storybook isn't really about the Golden Compass imparticular, it's its own story just with the same general world...I suppose. So no one should be Lyra or Asriel, and Nicole Kidman really freaks me out so if someone plays her, just please change the description?

Anyway...here's the story I'm thinking of. Basically, the Magisterium has found a new way to promote conformity and obedience. All they have to do is get ahold of an adult daemon for one minute and they can change it's personality, and in reverse changing that of the person the familiar accompanies. Once a daemon is transformed, they have the ability to transform that of any other daemon (but the person does not). However, there is a catch. Only daemons whom have chosen a form and matured can be touched, so children's daemons who have not are safe from the transformations. So, in turn, the Magisterium is hunting children down and putting them in walled-in orphanages around the world until their daemons are ready to be transformed. So the children must ban together with the few adults left to escape. Icebears can be a threat, though they can also be helpful--just depends on the particular tribe. Witches are also vulnerable to the Magisterium's ways, but they are friends if they have not been transformed yet.

So, the characters...You can be any age you like, though I would avoid infants, and if you are older than say...25-30 then you pretty much have to run with the Magisterium. Children under 15 are automatically in the Children tribe, but after that it is up to you. You can be an adult and run with the children, but know you are more vulnerable if this is true.

So, when you post your character post what 'tribe' you are with, either Children or Magisterium.

Profiles should go like this:

Name:
Age:
Sex:
Daemon Familiar Name:
--chosen a shape yet?: (yes or no, and if yes then what shape?)
Tribe:
Bio:
Personality:

But, you don't have to post a bio if you don't want too...that's up to you.

Rules:
All the normal ones for the storybook forum. Plus only 1 character per person at the moment--though you can be related to other characters if you ask them first and I encourage that.

Does this sound good?

Name: Irelyn Straematalac
Age: 14
Sex: Female
Daemon Familiar: Ormeus (NN: Orm)
--chosen a shape?: no
Tribe: Children
Bio: Irelyn grew up with a normal family. She had an older sister and a younger brother and two parents. Her parents, however, were researchers, though, and were often gone from home and Irelyn and her siblings were left with their nanny. One day the Magisterium's troops invaded her city and her home. Her mother was gone on a project, but her father was captured by the troops. Irelyn and her siblings were separated, and she does not know what has become of them--though she is faithful in their potential escape. She has heard that her father was transformed and set free, but has not seen him since.
Personality: Irelyn is strong, she never lets anyone tell her what to do but she is still sweet to those who don't try to control her. Small children have a fascination with Irelyn, and she knows it. Sometimes she will put pride before what is best for her, though.

Ooh, this'll be fun!

Name: Salazar Raejin
Age: 24
Sex: Male
Daemon Familiar Name: Silmarion (male daemon)
--chosen a shape yet?: Yes; African lion
Tribe: Children
Bio: Salazar's the son of one of the higher-ups in the Magisterium and served with them for a while. He didn't like what was happening, so he ran away to dedicate his time to helping the children. His two brothers, who were more susceptible to their father's influence and are fanatics for the Magisterium. They've made it their personal vendetta to find and silence Salazar.
Personality: Salazar is fairly quiet (and occasionally pretty lazy!), but he's very proud and loyal and will be vicious when he needs to. He acts as the "protector," guiding the children with a firm and confident hand.

(OOC: I have one question: What exactly is the transforming do? Does it make the daemons immune to Dust? Turn them back into a child's daemon? What does it do?)

Name: Quinn Coelho
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Daemon Familiar Name: Alchaeon
--chosen a shape yet?: (yes or no, and if yes then what shape?) Yes: gray tabby cat with white markings.
Tribe: Children.
Bio: Quinn is the daughter of a bureaucrat who's low in the hierarchy of the Magisterium, Thom Coelho. Thom, who doesn't like to make waves, and his daemon weren't initially considered for the reversal, since they appear to be the perfect Magisterium functionaries anyway. This gave him enough time to warn his daughter off; Quinn and Alchaeon, who share this ability to fly under the radar, went "into hiding," pretending to have already undergone the treatment. She works at a bakery downtown but has a tendency to make extras to leave for the Children to find. She's sympathetic to them, but doesn't know what else to do.
Personality: Quinn is a conundrum--she's a very quiet girl who rarely causes a fuss, but underneath her calm exterior she's terrified and infuriated by the Magisterium's newest practices. She's terrible at being in the spotlight, but will work her fingers to the bone in support of whoever the attention is on.

Let's just start then, people can join as they wish.

Irelyn found herself wandering down a dark street in the city. Since her family was attacked yesterday she had not seen or heard from any of them, and has been hiding since. But now she was hungry and thirsty, so she searched for something to fill her up.

She slid along the walls of the alley, trying her best to stay in the shadows. Orm was currently a black panther beside her, blending in well. The damp walls were slightly dirtying her long, forest green jacket and at times the back of her cream snowcap. She shivered a little, but that was not her main concern.

"Where are we going?" Orm questioned, his voice quieted but still above what Irelyn thought was acceptable.

"I don't know yet, shh."

Suddenly there was a crash from behind her, both were startled. Voices followed, deep frightening voices. Though Irelyn was not really scared of the voices, she knew she was just one fourteen year old girl--small for her age at that. She would stand no chance against them. She and Orm slid behind a dumpster near a backdoor on the wall she had become bestfriends with.

"Salazar! Be quiet!" Silmarion snapped, baring his huge fangs.

"Sorry, Silmar." Salazar stood up from the huge pile of boxes and carts he had knocked over as he fell, dusting off his clothes. He chewed his lip as he looked down at his dress: the irritating gold-on-black uniform of the Magisterium.

"How long until you think we're safe?" Silmarion asked as the twosome started back down the street.

"We won't be. Not until the Magisterium realises what it is they're doing, and that's a long ways off at the very least."

Silmarion was quiet for a time. Salazar coiled a few fingers in his dæmon's flowing gold mane, thinking.

"We have to find the children," he said after a time. The lion looked up. "We have to find the children, and help them. That's the only way to battle the Magisterium. Cut them off from their supply of victims and they will be powerless. It will take time, probably longer than we have, Silmarion. But every endeavor against them is a worthwhile endeavor.

"The children are the key to this brewing war."

Salazar finished his monologue and resumed down the street at a faster pace, Silmarion loping gently beside him. The whole time, he had his back turned towards the skip behind which Irelyn and Orm hid, and neither man nor dæmon were any the wiser.

((Here's Ayric, I forgot to put in a picture. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272 ... olgirl.png))

Ayric dashed along the top of the red shingled roof, careful not to make the tiles slip, Remis hurtled after her as a thin black cat. He clumsily followed her, tripping over his long tail occasionally. Ayric stopped and clamped onto a pole to swing around and stop. Remis changed into a sparrow and swooped around with her, finally landing on her shoulder.

"See anyone?"

Ayric shook her head. They had been looking for her comrades all night and still couldn't find them. She had sent them out on a spying mission to find out what the Magisterium's next move was. No one had returned yet so she assumed the worse.

"Maybe we should look on the ground." Remis suggested from her shoulder.

"Sure." Ayric responded and looked around for the nearest drain pipe. There was none, of course, but the pile of boxes to her left would do.

She clambered down the shipping boxes to the bottom which was a street alley. Out in the road carriages drove by and people walked back forth carrying basket and packages. Remis landed beside her and shifted to an okapi. Ayric started off at a brisk walk, Remis clopping behind her.

"This is better." Remis commented as her stretched his limbs. Ayric smiled and dodged another woman that wasn't paying attention. Ayric scanned the streets when she saw two men in black walk out of an alley with a girl about her age.

"What's wrong with this picture?" Ayric asked.

Remis glanced over and continued to walk, "Should we help?"

Ayric nodded. Remis shifted into a black wolf and took off towards the men. Ayric followed closely behind. She got to them and leaped onto the one holding the girl. Remis had his daemon in his teeth, the ferret twisted and bit at Remis's snout.

The girl turned around and punched the man in the stomach. Turning on her heel this time she kneed the other man. His dog daemon latched onto the girl's who was furiously changing shape. The girl punched the dog in the middle of the head so it let go of her daemon and flew off into the crowd. Remis let go of the ferret and took off, Ayric let go of the man, punched the other one, and sprinted after them.

Remis bounded past several shops with exiting customers, nearly knocking them over. Ayric caught up with him as he whipped into an alleyway. The girl was climbing a stone wall, miraculously finding foot and hand holes.

"Wait!" Ayric shouted but the girl had slipped over the wall.

Remis snorted, back a an okapi, "Leave her. She thinks you're trouble. Maybe she'll come back and thank you. I heard her daemon say her name once, Irelyn. If you hear the name again try to talk to her. If not, let it alone."

Ayric nodded and turned her body around. With a final glance at the wall she turned her head and walked to Remis.

Salazar continued his brisk walk down the street, his ears tuned in to the sounds of his surroundings, listening for a distinctive child's voice. He failed to notice the wide berth passerby were giving him and Silmarion, even hissing a little as he passed.

The lion loping at his side, however, did notice and voiced these thoughts to Salazar. The man snapped back into reality, his eyes widening as he turned his head side to side.

"Wha...?" he almost asked, then answered on his own as he saw his reflection in a puddle of rainwater that had yet to evaporate. He was still dressed as one of the Magisterium. Of course. They thought him an enemy.

Salazar sighed and knew it would be no use trying to convince the masses otherwise. He put his head down and carried on his aimless path, tuning out the stares of others.

Silmarion put his nose to the ground and sniffed. "Salazar," he intoned. "I smell a child's dæmon. Possibly two."

The twosome stopped. Salazar looked down at his faithful companion.

"Follow the scent," he said, rather unnecessarily. In a flash, Silmarion was running at full gallop down the street, Salazar keeping stride a bit behind him. All need for quiet was forgotten as the racket of Salazar's boots rang through the streets. Silmarion veered left, and Salazar nearly fell over as he tried to change course.

"Hurry up, they're close," the lion called.

The twosome skidded into the alleyway just as Irelyn scrambled over the wall. They froze, not quite sure what tangent they'd been going off on.

"Leave her. She thinks you're trouble. Maybe she'll come back and thank you. I heard her daemon say her name once, Irelyn. If you hear the name again try to talk to her. If not, let it alone," they heard the child's dæmon say.

The girl whose dæmon it was turned around.

After apparently being attacked and chased, Irelyn and Orm continued to keep their place behind the dumpster. Her long light brown hair was blowing in her face with the wind catching between the wall and the dumpster.

"Are we just going to hide here forever?" Orm asked.

"Shh." Was all Irelyn could say, she didn't know the answer to that.

Suddenly the door beside them swung open throwing a gust of warm air their direction along with smells of sweet food like cookies and cupcakes. But, Irelyn grabbed Orm and slinked back quickely, the man did not notice them as he threw a bag into the dumpster and reentered the building.

"That was close!" Orm said and slid back down to the ground, putting his paws on the wet blacktop.

Irelyn slid out a tad too, the door hadn't shut all the way, just a crack was left. She got close to it.

"What are you doing! We're going to get caught!"

"Look Orm, they have food in there!"

They watched, but did not test their luck. Maybe someone would bring some extras out for the garbage and they could steal them. They waited patiently in the dark.

Ayric froze. A man stood behind her with a lion daemon, the natural enemy of the okapi. Remis seemed unconcerned but Ayric stood tense, "What do you want?"

The man gave a respectful nod, "My name is Salazar. I've come to help."

Ayric scrabbled for a memory. Salazar...Salazar...

"You work for the Magisterium." she said calmly. Her only chance would be to escape over the wall.

Remis chuckled beside her, "Be at ease, Ayric. He is only a son. He will not hurt you." As if to prove he was right he walked to Salazar's daemon. The daemon stood straight until Remis approached.

"Well met, Remis." the lion grumbled in a low voice.

"Silmarion." Remis replied. He shifted into an osprey and returned to Ayric's shoulder.

"Remember?" Remis whispered, "We have some information on them back at base. Slink watched them for a while. They're on our side."

Ayric started to uncoil her muscles. She let Remis drop to the ground. He shifted back to an okapi.

"Well, why are you here?"

Salazar smiled.
