Well, assuming you mean that in a battle, I'd much rather have the sword, unless of course you are being wicked tricksy man and in fact Pen means Powerfully-electric-Nanobots, then I want the 'PEN'.

The clash of a sword echoes for only a second, the ink of a pen, echoes for eternity.

Have to say the pen.
Pens (Quills or writing of some form if you want to be pedantic) have written out many religious books e.g the bible.
Now because of these religions battles and crusades have been fought, but BECAUSE of the pen's writing.
Also, many would find it difficult to express their feelings (other than unbridled rage) through a sword.

Of course if I was fighting I'd choose a sword. :P

not only can you stab people with pens, they write. Swords cannot write, to the best of my knowledge.

The pen. Easier to find, and harder hitting when it needs to be.
Not only that, it can write! *captain obvious*

Pfft, well I was a rebel and picked sword. You can kill people with a sword. A pen...? Not so easy.
I didn't know what to put here so I put this.

I hate hand writing stuff.

And you can write with a sword, just very carefully, and not on paper....like in the sand, or stone, on the chest of a freshly murdered enemy.

I actually thought something up about this a while back.

See, the pen may sketch, instruct, and build the sword (okay, maybe not build, but go with me), but if that sword strikes back, you've got a mess of plastic and ink, and there would we be? With a big mess and sharp ends and ink that stains, that's where we would be.

So the sword can beat the pen, just as easily as the pen created the concept of the sword. And if you dip a sword in ink, or sap, or blood, you can write with it! Double usage, woo! And the pen can sure get stabby. So I'll go with the pen AND the sword; the sword for defense and strength, the pen for creation and cleverness.

The Pen and the Sword.... that needs to be written down... *writes it down*

it's definately the pen. you can have a million swords, but only the pen will make people want to use them.
if anyone wants a review, post on my profile and I'll get to it in a couple days.

Of course, both the sword and the pen are both tools designed by man for man's purposes. As such, there's not much meaning to be garnered by comparing two tools' given, utilitarian purposes. I think a much more interesting question would be:

What is mightier, that which man can see, or that which man cannot?
In the interest of actually getting somewhere and accomplishing something, I'll be 'wrong' and you can be 'right'.

The sword! You can stab and write with both. One uses ink, the other uses blood! And you can blind people with a sword as well as intimidate them. Or, if your really cool, you hide a knife in a pen and have it swing out!
