Paths
These paths lay out before me,
Each led me of to a different reality.
The one less traveled,
Becomes clearer once revealed.
One comes close,
Beckoning, make it the one I chose.
Temptation takes over,
Struggling against the chooser.
Make the decision, make it now! They say,
But who is truly the one to pay?

Each one beckoning,
To be part of our daily reckoning,
So difficult a choice,
We listen for advice, the noise
In the backgrounds whispering,
Come, step up and get lost in wild dreams, never returning.

Paths of fire, paths of light!
Seeming in the night, burning bright!
Come once, come twice,
Come all, give no thought to vice.
Lose control of body and soul,
Let free the chains of life, let go.
Some say the shallowness persuades,
As the problem from before our eyes fade.
Some say this path seethes with anger,
I say, it is merely uncontrolled laughter.

The sun falls, shadows create,
That’s all that this path lets permeate.
The light begins to shunt,
As darkness forms, wolves begin to hunt,
Fear, horror, terror, creatures of the unknown,
Sleep, really, only is on loan.
Corners are friends,
Black is a part of the trend,
Blood is the only escape,
As the blade becomes a curtain, over our eyes they drape.
Madness pervades the realm,
Where true fear lies at the helm,
Looking over the world, cold as stone,
Looking, looking, from his frozen throne.

I call upon those whispers in the background,
To show me the way through the labyrinth with their unending sound,
Stumbling upon this path, heard not, seen not, before,
Except maybe by some forgotten lore.
Covered with brambles, thorns, filling one with dread,
It is not an easy path, dangerous to tread.
Once set foot upon,
We do not see the dangers we once looked on,
Cutting, swatting, pushing with all our might,
Hoping with all our heart we make it to the other side.
The end never ends, the path goes on,
Even after the thorns long gone.
On this path I step forward, and, knowing the dangers of that which I steer,
If I may ask the question, why am I still here?

The answer lies not in the minds of the dark or passionate,
But in the hearts of the level-headed.
They vow to traverse a dangerous path,
They promise to keep going until success is written in the epitaph.
Who these few ones are,
We need not look far
Those who believe in the value of a future,
Those who believe in happily ever after.

The roads of life lay aplenty,
The only matter lies in the choice of which we have so many.
Which to pick? Something we ask ourselves,
Only to find the answer in someone else.

Pick not to impress,
Pick not as a casual address
Toward the reality of life,
Or be prepared to pull through struggle and strife.

Don't sit down and write because you're a writer; sit down and write because you have something to say. And if the sea of ideas isn't flowing, well, just tell me about your day.
