You know that a comma is the difference between life and death.

You know that WCW has nothing to do with professional wrestling, but stands for William Carlos Williams.

You believe that anything to do with a "broken heart" better involve a surgery.

You hear someone say "I am" and expect the end to be "-bic pentameter."

You know the word 'stanza' is NOT that guy who used to be on Who's the Boss?.

Your teacher/editor lets you get away with a lowercase 'i' and no punctuation.

Your friend asks you to look at his trophies and you ask him to check out your strophes.

Any more you clever dogs can think up out there?
Perception is everything.

You read this really boring poem and say to yourself, "I can make a better one!" and whip out some paper and a pencil

(or at least that's what me and my friends do lol)

You fall in love, you write a poem

You fall out of love and you write a poem

You decide you hate love, you write yet another poem
"i lost a little time, now i'm a little lost"
"i did not make the world i'm just trying to live in it"

You alliterate randomly without realising it.

(I tried to be clever and alliterate that ^, but I'm not a poet. A friend of mine who is will alliterate randomly and that's where I got that from...)
YWS gives me carpal tunnel.

Need a Critique?

Evil lurks everywhere, often in plain sight...Can you lurk in plain sight? Or is that just walking?

For some reason, you always write and talk in verse. It is your only way to converse. It might be strange, odd or diverse. But it is your way, your gift, your curse.

That was from when I felt I could only really say anything on paper. But now I have friends and actually talk to them.  I love smilies!

...you do it between the lines.

...sonics do not refer to a blue hedgehog.

...you agonize over when to hit the 'Enter' key.

...you cringe when you listen to the lyrics of songs on the radio, forcing you into musical isolation with artists no one has heard of.

...during allegedly deep and heartfelt moments of Hollywood dialogue, you can't help but smirk and think "My God, could you be any LESS original?"

...you know the difference in slam poetry and rap is more than just a beat.

...you frequently conjugate words previously unconjugated to get your image 'just right.'

...there's nothing more infuriating than the question, "So you're, what, like Robert Frost or something?"

When you speak totally in words with alternate meanings and giggle when the people around you don't get it.

When "purple" is not only a color, but now a verb too.

When you can find less than three degrees of separation (word/description-wise) between a pocket protector and a calculator.

When you wonder which one you really mean: "an" or "the"

People cringe and change the subject when they ask your major and you say "English".

You frequently use big words that you don't even know the meaning of as an accidental means to confuse people.

You make up a word on accident because "it has to be a word..it just fits".

... you get into bad relationships just so you can write some good poetry when it blows up in your face.

Don't you just love countable and non-countable nouns?
Fraser: Stop stealing the blanket.
[Diefenbaker whines]
Fraser: You're an Arctic Wolf, for God's sake.
(Due South)

Hatter: Do I need a reason to help a pretty girl in a very wet dress? (Alice)

Got YWS?

... when you deconstruct the things others say because you can totally build up the imagery they didn't even know they were using.

When new year's eve means staying at home and writing reflective poetry, rather than going out and partying.

When you get strange looks from people after telling them you want to go and do 'something poetic'.

You've given someone a poem as a birthday present. Either with or without their request for you to do so.

When you see something or some place so amazing, and rather than admiring it you start to describe it in your head using metaphors and similes.

Wow, I used to be such a... poet.
Gone, gone from New York City,
where you gonna go with a head that empty?
Gone, gone from New York City,
where you gonna go with a heart that gone?

When you find yourself counting the syllabyls in what either people around you, or characters on t.v are saying.

With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise."

I've totally done that.

...your chemistry notebook is half verse.

...you quote poetry to break awkward silences. (Erm...not that I do that or anything..."Whose woods these are I think I know...")
