You lift the gleaming dagger,
Blinding my senses;
Filling me with a growing insecurity.

The whispers begin like the breeze,
Spreading like wildfire;
Destroying my life and reputation.

A word is all it takes,
To plunge the dagger through my soul;
Making me the outsider; the bitch.

I thought you were my friend.

Nice; I like your poetry. :D

The middle stanza seems a bit out of sorts with the rest of the poem. The first and third deal with the dagger image, and in the second you drop it. Re-introducing it in the last one seems a bit dis-jointed. I'd continue with the dagger image throughout all the stanzas.

I like what you have so far but it feels like this is unfinished. The last line does not feel like it should end there.

This provokes a lot of emotion in the reader. I wouldn't have the title be "rumors," because then you're giving the object of the story away. I would suggest to continue to milk out the description to the reader, then reveal that it was a rumor. But that's just my opinion.

If you were to do that, though, I would wait to use the word "reputation" until later in the poem.

All in all, this was a pleasure to read!

i like this alot, i agree that the title gives it away too quickly, but the wildfire analogy is very effective

i disagree that it doesnt sound finished, it sounds very finished, but id change the title and maybe have the word rumors show up in one of the last stanzas, just for clarification

In general, it was alright. But there were vague parts that I thought could be a little more specific:

"Blinding my senses"
Which senses are being blinded? How (I'm not sure if you mean to be literally blinded, or if there is a reflection off the dagger, etc.)? How does the growing insecurity in the next line relate to this/ overcome the pain of the first idea to become more important?

"The whispers begin like the breeze"
Can you think of anything else to compare a whisper to? Because they're always compared to the breeze in poetry. In the following line, you might want to consider the idea that whispers/breeze help to spread wildfire just as much as it can spread like wildfire.

"Destroying my life and reputation"
This is vague and general, and can have more of an impact if focused. What's one specific way that the narrator's life/reputation is destroyed?

"To plunge the dagger through my soul"
This is drifting into emo territory, so tread carefully! Unless expanded to be taken literally, how can a dagger be plunged through one's soul? To say something like that, I think you might have to expand on the nature of the soul, something that might take a little longer than the line allows.

"Making me the outsider; the bitch"
I don't see how this line relates to the previous one and as such, doesn't do as much as it could.

"I thought you were my friend"
This line is alright to end a poem with, I suppose, but it's a phrase heard quite often accompanying this type of sentiment. Maybe a different "I thought you..." phrase would work better?
