Slight update:

I ended up changing a part in the very last scene in this chapter, which ended up adding more emotion for Kaliyah, the main character. The change is connected to chapter two (which is up, by the way), which is why it's important for it to be edited in to this post, which I all ready did. So if you haven't all ready read chapter one, read it and you'll see the change in the last scene (the part where Kaliyah punches Erabus) and then when you read chapter two you won't be confused about when Kaliyah punched Erabus when it's mentioned in that chapter.

I love the names; they're so original. A few errors: "The sword was sheathed in a scabbard." That means the same thing, so you could say, "It was sheathed in black leather," or something like that.

Another thing: how does she know the figure is tall if he stoops? Is it the shoulders?

It's a good start. But maybe you should give more description of the characters, what they look like, how they think, that sort of thing.

Too often we crave the extraordinary in life, without even learning how to cherish the ordinary first. Friend, I promise you this: if you can learn to take joy in the simple mundane things in life, the extraordinary will take care of itself, it'll be on its way, hurrying towards you. But if you skip the first part, it'll ever evade you.
