Alright, just posting something in another topic in this forum and I mentioned how my eyes turn dark gray when I'm angry. Went to thinking about my eyes and how they change, and I figured this:

My 'usual' mood (no peak of any certain emotion, a good mixture of all of them): Blue-gray, with black 'round the edges.
Really happy: Bright blue, completley blue, and did I mention blue? Yes. Very, very blue. And bright.
Annoyed: Light gray (no blue remaining)
Angry: Darker gray (sometimes can be near black if angry enough)

I know that my friend Matthew has that whole hazel thing going on and sometimes they turn ORANGE for Petes sake, but I haven't met any other people with a eye disfunction...ish... whatever. Anyone?

Sureal, what kind of answer is that? Damn you!

Hm, yeah, I'm sure. At first I thought my friends were just Joshing me, but they ended up being right. I checked it out one day, really frightened me and (long story)... um, I was punching this tampon box in the girls bathroom at my old High School and when I finally went to the sink to run my knuckles (which were broken by then) under some cold water, I looked into the mirror and my eyes were almost black. Friggen scary. I've never seen them like that after then, but I haven't been angry like that for quite a while.

And I know that when I get all excited over something they get all sparkly and blue. It's weird.

So no one? Yet? Come on, I can't be the only one! Please?

You are not alone...

The happier I am, the browner my eyes are... the more upset/angry I am, the greener they are... It's scary and it makes it really hard to hide the fact that you're angry at someone... It really annoys me...

Actually most people I know say their eyes change color but of course its not the eye itself changing its color- just the effect of various types of lighting reflecting off the pigment cells in the iris. maybe people with blue eyes have them appear green in strong light, or other colors because if there are a few green pigment cells (or whatever color) they will be overshadowed by the majority color, but in strong light they appear more noticable.

oh and when we're angry we often narrow our eyes so our pupils dilate to allow more light, making our eyes look darker.

so that's the scientific explanation.

But it is possible for eyes to change color. The chemical balances in your body can and do change depending on what mood you're in, and for some people it changes drastically enough to change things like eye color.

The pigment cells in your eye's can't change significantly in a short time. over the course of your life, maybe..most babies are born with blue eyes, and they often change color. but it's physically impossible for the cells that color your eyes to change in a matter of minutes or hours. The cell would have to die and be replaced by a different pigment color cell to actually change color.

Whatever you say faith (gosh, you sound so smart!) I've noticed that mine change color too.

Normal: blue with gold circle around the pupil
Happy: brighter blue with more visible gold
Mad: Okay, I don't get mad easily, but I think they turn a kind of flashy grey; gold is very pale.

The changes aren't as drastic as yours, Tess, but they do still change.

Well, my changes aren't as dramatic as yours, but I'm still rather fond of my eyes- prolly my best feature. Well, maybe my nose is...I dunno. Anyway, they're hazel with a navy blue rim and a freckle in the right eye, which is really cool. ^_^ But it depends more on what I'm wearing rather than my mood. i.e. if I'm wearing green clothes/eyeshadow: BAM. They're green. If not then they're more brownish/amberish.

Mine are hazel too. :D But they change with the seasons. In summer, there's more blue, in winter, there's more green.

Just to clear up if there is any confusion or doubt over if Tess' eyes really change with her mood. Yes, yes they do. And yes, yes it is rather scary. I think I was the one who pointed out the exited=blue connotation neh?

Yeah...but mine don't change color...as far as I know. But it comforts me to know that I'm not some kind of crazy mutant scientific-anomaly. But! My aunt had a molar grow out of her palm, my uncle had webbed hands and feet, and my other uncle's organs are reversed.

My eyes are normally blue-ish but when I cry they go really bright green.

Mine go from light blue to an aqua-type of color to light green. Lately, though, my eyes have turned this dark, sharp blue color, that scares people if I'm glaring at them (weird, but whatever). So maybe I'll have to add that one in there too.
