Top 100 Outrage!!

Of course Tolkein used other languages to influence his own, that is how languages are created. His was actually a proper language which, if one was to learn it, could be spoken fluently in. Paolini claims he has used Old Norse as an influence for his "Ancient Language" (which consists of only a few words and phrases). What a coincidence it is that Tolkein did the same.

You know, I hate to jab at this, but I don't exactly think someone who can't capitalize there letters can win anything.

I don't know any Poalini, but I know Tolken from the Hobbit. Even if what he did was based on Lore, what about Shakespeare? a lot of what he wrote were other stories just rewriten. Isn't that everything? It's leaving your own mark on it that makes it new/better. Of course, having no knowledge of Poalini, I can't speak for his having/lack of this.

Now.Onto the YWS 100 top books topic. HP, LotRs and P&P are obviously on here. Any other suggestions?

Of course, even if we vote for our top 100, it will be a total stale mate between those who read contemporary fantasy, or fantasy in general, or those who read the classics, like me.

Books are books. And top 100 lists are opinions. I should just leave this thread to it's own fighting...

For other things, His Dark Materials and The Silmarillion, off the top of my head.

EDIT:But, yes, we do need some non-fantasy as well.

I'm forgetting so many books that I love.

It's difficult to have a top 100 for all books. There are so many different genres.

Personally, I would like to see the top 100 classics in which a book would have to be 50 years or older to qualify.

And 100 is a lot of books to vote and decide on. It would be an involved process.

Dracula and Frankenstein? They were pretty influential...

Well, I suppose Lord of the Flies should be on there too. And I completely forgot about Hitch Hikers'

Well, Hitchhiker's Guide, of course. :smacks forehead: how could I forget.

Why don't we tone it down about 25%? It makes it more prestigious.
