At the moment I am the only journalist, but others will submit articles. I also translated this paper into Spanish because 75% of the kids at my school know spanish (45% fluent), but I'm not going to post it (I'm just bragging that I translated it all by myself!)

Happening Times
“Learn and Read.”
March 20, 2007
This is the first issue of ‘‘Happening Times”, which reports news, opinions and debates of the community of Highland Middle School.
This newsletter is about the truth-
Maybe not the WHOLE truth, (if it wishes to not be observed), but I can guarantee that no LIES will be read in further issues of this paper.
I cannot, however guarantee that people will never find these articles offensive (I’m not talking about swear words and such).
This paper will mostly be an outlet for our opinions to be addressed, noticed, and heard throughout the school.
Articles can be written by anyone, and can be submitted by emailing the address following the core of the paper.
To all adults reading this paper now, who want to attempt to crush this paper, find out its authors, and punish them; The First Amendment states that all persons of the United States are entitled to freedom of speech, so don’t even try to mess with our rights.

“Spring Board” or I’m really Board with you trying to connect with me by analyzing change.”
By Nipsirc

You sit in your LA class and wonder, “What ever happened to creative writing?” The answer: You ARE being creative with your writing in your class. You may not realize it, but when your teachers walk through analyzing text with the class you’re actually allowed the privilege to make your own analyzation of the sappy story placed under your nose.
All I can say is that our entire Language Arts system is pathetic, and that we should go back to the good old days when your teachers told you that you have a week to complete a 3 page short story about anything you want.
“Where did the learning go?” You ask. Well first of all people WRITE which is the point of a class in which you learn the art of language and you READ other people’s stories and CRITQUE their writings.
This is just one creative alternative to a Spring Board assignment. If BSD’s curriculum was decided by people with BRAINS then maybe Highland would get better WASL scores…

I request all to critque my work as heavily as possible (puts on wrestling gear, and gets into firm stance, ready for the first take down on the ring.)
