Sorry, but the first thing that comes to mind is Casper: The Friendly Ghost. I've always loved that movie....It really depends on your age range, though. If your story is targeted for adults (30+), then there is no need to worry about that.

Kasper Veane: A well-dressed man who inherited most of his money from his rich parents, who passed away in a tragic accident. Perhaps their yacht crashed into a deserted island, and they passed away.

I think of an Irish redhead, very loyal, very fierce. She's secretly fascinated with magic, but she's a tough girl who doesn't let on to such things, except perhaps with her best friend. Still, she's more of an introvert than anything else.

I think of a character who might be descended of some strange race. He is a scholar and warrior who is interested in magic and has a troubled past. He is handsome and tall with dark hair.


Elayna Fenthera (f)

Sorry, not a fantasy character for me. The daughter of a pair of polish immigrants circa 1990, her first name anglicized to make it easier for her classmates to pronounce, the new surname taken from a brand of motor-oil produced at the factory where her father works.

Kate Dixley

A red-headed girl living in the South during the civil rights movement. Her father is very racist, her mother is a little more liberal. Her best friend is half-black, but she has to keep their friendship a secret. She has a hard time deciding which side she's on, but ends up helping with the movement and getting disowned by her father.

Ian Perry

Makes me think of a red haired guy who lives an ordinary life. Most people would consider him boring at face value.

Neve Alder

(S'funny, 'cause Ian's goal in life is to be ordinary/normal.)

A headstrong girl with bright red hair. She acts out against her cultural gender norms and runs away to become a pirate. She wears dresses to maintain some of her feminine side, but alters them to make riding/fighting/climbing easier.

Mitchell Lewis Ellison

A baseball player, with dark hair, a mustache, and a pessimistic attitude. He always introduces himself with his full name, and hates shaking hands. He never believes he's going to win a baseball game, but always seems to. Because he's so grumpy, no team wants to keep him and he's passed around a lot.

Marjis, pronounced Morris

Essentially a janitor for a wizard, jealous because he always gets the dirty work of cleaning up after the massacres.


Aya Joaki

An exotic Hawaiian belly dancer who is running away from her abusive boyfriend.

Tatiana

An emotionally fragile married woman with thin hair and big, watery eyes. She clings to her husband, and is constantly asking him for reassurance that he's not going to leave her. Very good at playing the piano, though doesn't really incorporate passion into her music.

Ariel (female)

Oh, wow I love that name. I almost want to steal it form you and use it for one of my future characters. The "Tati" sound is so beautiful, and I'm not sure what origin it is, but it's sounds Russian, just very European. In any event, it's an extremely beautiful name, for an extremely beautiful person. It also sounds a little evil, perhaps she has a darker side?

Peter

I keep thinking of St. Peter, who guards the Pearly Gates. So, maybe a Catholic boy who helps at an orphanage, taking care of the "lost souls" there. He grows up to become bishop of his parish or whatever and his story is told through a series of prayers.

Fleur Bellerose (male. ... don't ask)

A sad fop, over-the-top pastel-infatuated as far as wardrobe and cursed by ill-luck. It goes with his name, perhaps.
