Those two words
have forever altered their meaning
for me.

Christmas is a time
for family, peace, hope, love;
Isn't it?

A time of joy
and a time of merry laughter,
Right?

Then why
do tears course down my face
as I cry?

Why is the icy water
my only solace on this night
of joy?

My mother,
does not wish to see me
on Christmas.

My father,
will not get to see me
on Christmas.

My family,
will not know I exist
on Christmas.

'Merry Christmas'
these two words are not so joyous,
Are they?

Christmas
is not so merry
Is it?

So the tears
streaming down my face
are bitter.

Bitter
from two, little, good will words
'Merry Christmas'

i'm sorry that you feel this way, but i think your approach to this poem could have been more subtle. instead of revealing why you are sad about christmas, convey the feeling.

So the tears
streaming down my face
are bitter.

^ like here. it's an outright telling of how you feel. and i'm sorry you feel bitter and all about christmas... but the poem itself feels awkward because of it.

...i hope you feel better though.

I tell the neophyte: Write a million words–the absolute best you can write, then throw it all away and bravely turn your back on what you have written. At that point, you’re ready to begin.
