Welcome to the Review Month (RevMo) FAQ. This post will answer common questions about the event. Please ask any additional questions below.
What is Review Month?
Review Month is an annual, month-long event that takes place on YWS every September. From September 1st to September 30th, users participate in a variety of challenges, hashtags, and events that focus on reviewing works of other site members. This event focuses on creating quality reviews that provide meaningful feedback to the receiver!
What events take place during RevMo?
The two main events that take place during the event are the Checklist Challenge and the Banner Contest. In the Checklist Challenge, users attempt to complete a list of review-themed tasks in order to earn a badge of completion. In the banner contest, users create and vote for their favourite banners, which can be used in reviews around the site. Please check the rest of the RevMo forum for additional events taking place, such as parties and contests.
What are RevMo hashtags?
RevMo hashtags can be found on the People's Tab and are mini-events that have users post a hashtag on a specific topic, such as giving another member a shoutout for a great review. There can be specific challenges or contests related to hashtags.
Why should I participate in RevMo?
RevMo focuses on quality over quantity. This event includes workshops, such as 'Review 101', which cover topics like providing in-depth feedback, learning how to review outside of your typical genre, and working on your own ability to analyze novels, scripts, songs, poems, and short stories. RevMo will help you become a better-quality reviewer, whether this is your first review, or 1000th. During this month, it is a great opportunity to grow closer to other users and make new friends.
What is the Checklist Challenge?
Please see examples of this challenge from previous years, 2025, 2024, and 2023. In the Checklist Challenge, there is a list of challenges provided to participants. Throughout the month of September, you must work to write reviews that meet all of the requirements on the list. Typically, only one review can count for each item on the list. Those who finish get a special badge of completion added to their profile.
Why do some people have different username colours during RevMo?
Besides the typical YWS username colours, during RevMo, users have the chance to unlock special username colours by writing a certain amount of reviews. At the end of each week, any user who meets a certain goal will be assigned the colour that correlates with what they have accomplished. Often, the biggest prize is getting a golden username colour.
