“I wasn’t three days away,” she said, deciding to deliberately misunderstand. “It just took him a while to finish up eating and skin it. It’s not perfect but it’s a really, really nice fur still. I was thinking it’d be nice to make it into a gigantic blanket but Rönn seemed set on it being a coat so since it’s his gift I’m gonna go with that. I bet it’ll make him happy to see me enjoying it. He’s sort of sentimental like that. Did I tell you I made him a bracelet? He was still wearing it the last time I saw him. Said he didn’t get a gift in like six-hundred-years so it matters to him more than I thought it would.”

“I…uh… took a walk?” She glanced away. “Lucky to run into him. His hooves were hurting him so I was able to help him and then he gave me food and let me sit by his fire when we were hanging out. He can’t accept hospitality but he can give it, as it turns out. So. It works out, him making a fire for the two of us. I think it was more for my benefit than his — he didn’t seem cold even though he barely wears any clothes at all. And he just eats the bear raw. But. Well. He made a fire so we could cook mine. It was actually really tasty — I’ve never had white bear before. Novelty.”
Maybe if she rambled enough she could find something to distract him from the crux of the matter.
