“It’s… correct?” he said hesitantly, feeling very stupid. “That he, uh, just… just Ky and I shared. We didn’t know him much at the time.”

"And yet the three of you were alone out there for weeks. There was no camaraderie?"

“Camaraderie and food sacrifice are different things… I feel like… sir. We gave him a fair portion, no more, no less. Sir.”

"How did he feel about Ky sharing with you?"

“You’d have to ask him, sir,” Tadaaki said. “We were all cold and hungry and tired and in pain. I imagine he felt jealous, but he didn’t say and we didn’t ask. Sir. What Ky and I did with our food wasn’t his business.”

"Where did you get the supplies?"

“Al got them, sir. Already had them before Ky and I got to him.”

"And where is the pack the supplies were carried in?"

“We abandoned it once it was empty, sir.”

"Why? It could carry other food."

“We didn’t have other food?” He looked at him with a worried brow. That was the point.

"Berries, horse, herbs, scavenged animals."

“We’re not made for the wilderness, sir.” Tadaaki shook his head. “We didn’t know what was safe to eat up here. Figured we’d rather risk starving to being poisoned. Sir.”

"Which inn signs did you pass on the way here?"

(Hm… fair. I feel like part about abandoning the bag and not knowing about the plants is just truth haha I’ll edit slightly to just focus on the plants rather than the predators, good catch)

“Um.” He blinked, furrowing his brow as he tried to remember. No harm in that, right? “I… um… I can’t read. But I think there was a bear on one? I’m not sure. I wasn’t in a headspace to notice details, sir.”
