“A bit!” Pratik said. “I’ve read a few things — like the history of trade routes through the North. Super helpful.”
Well, that one had been more of a skim. Though he did learn things from it, so it was useful. But he’d spent most of his reading time on fluff and poetry. Obviously couldn’t admit that, though. That’d be humiliating if anyone knew.

They’re useful if you need to travel without people seeing you. They’re also useful if you need to find someone who is trying to travel without being found.”

“I mean.” Pratik cringed a bit. “Those too… but there aren’t many of those in Venholm, thanks to Gaius… and I try to avoid those if I can anyhow. I’m tempted towards bad decisions when I see a convoy.”

He'd probably be intimidated, if he was used to doing as he was told. As it was, he felt he had an equal amount of power in their partnership. Yes, he was the employee. Yes, he'd obey. Submit, to an extent. But if Ash got too insufferable, Pratik would simply leave. He wasn't scared by a bit of ice.
