"Give us a moment and we'll get ourselves properly on our feet. You'll see." Tarkin glanced at him. "It's better than being alone, at any rate."
"The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that." -Karis Nemik

"Maybe for people who have something left to go back to one day."

Tarkin shook his head. "Some people go to the Rebellion because they have nowhere else to go to. They fight so they have something to look forward to."

"Hm." He mused. That was something to think on. He usually avoided the topic of the war so long as it didn't interfere with his hunting.

(have you seen Kenobi)

(Yes!! How did you like it?)

"It's both for me," he said, and took two more sips of coffee.

(there were some scenes that were kinda cheesy but bruhhh have you seen the latest episode? had me shook)

He looked up slightly, wondering if Tarkin would continue speaking. He wouldn't admit, but listening to his backstory would be more interesting than staring at the dirt.

(I've only seen the first two)

Tarkin didn't continue. He wasn't a fool; giving away personal information beyond basic knowledge was unwise at best.

(ok it came out today...thought it was Fridays but apparently it's Wednesdays. It was good. It's so great to be back in the rebellion again)

Sirejj figured and turned back to his scribbles in the sand, occasionally glancing up and looking around.

(Omg)

The young man came back about an hour later with a meager kill. Tarkin eyed it judgementally but said nothing, taking charge of skinning and gutting the small herbivore. They would have to ration it.

Sirejj had some dried ration sticks but he would gladly partake of the food if he was offered it. The ration sticks were renowned for being disgusting.

(did you see it? shook. all i gotta say.)

(My family and I are gonna watch it Saturday)

"Get the fire going," he said to Sev, who rushed off to find kindling. Tarkin studied the innards of the creature carefully and, finding no parasites inside, set the thing aside.

Sirejj watched the boy try to light the fire and with an almost indiscernible movement he pushed one of the larger sticks atop the little flam, effectively smothering it.

The boy cursed under his breath and started over. Tarkin watched in irritated silence.

Sirejj chuckled, but coughed when the boy looked his way and avoided eye contact.

Sev finally got a small fire going, and Tarkin set the meat over it on a spit.
