"That's where the next inn will be. There's no contact but you can ask for provisions there. The horses are fast; they should get you there in less than five days if you treat them right."

Pratik nodded. “How will I pay for them?”

"You'll find ten gold clappers, thirty silver loops, and forty copper pellets in your supplies. That ought to pay for the rest of the food and get you where you need to go."

Pratik nodded again, clapping Gregor on the shoulder. “Thank you.”

Gregor nodded to him. "Good luck. You won't see me tomorrow; leave at the crack of dawn if you can."

“We will,” Pratik assured him, stepping into the room.

Rickard followed, and Gregor departed. "Should I light the fire?" Rickard asked Pratik, stepping tentatively toward the fireplace.

Pratik glanced towards the hearth, then back at Rickard and nodded. It'd be their last night of warmth in a long, long time. "Please. Thank you."

Pratik waited until he assumed Gregor would be gone, then poked his head into the hall. As expected, the large man had departed, so Pratik stepped out and walked to Ada's room and knocked softly on the door.

Rickard dipped his head and limped over to the fire, setting up the logs and adding kindling.

"Who is it?" Ada's voice asked, an edge to it.

"Who do you think?" Pratik muttered back, not wanting to speak Akarataran too loudly. Most walls had ears, and he didn't like to give them anything to listen to.

There was a long pause, then a shuffling as Ada came closer to the door. "What do you want?"

"To talk through our plan," Pratik said, getting annoyed at the girl's paranoia. He could sympathize. He could. But godsdamn the girl was going to get them all in a world of shit, if she couldn't manage to bring herself to play the role they all needed to. "And I'm not going to do it from the hall where everyone can hear."

The door unlocked, and Ada opened it, looking him up and down. "Fine. Quickly." She stood to the side so he could squeeze in.

Pratik slipped into the room, pushing the door shut behind him. He took a step away from her and crossed his arms. "We're leaving a bit before dawn. That'll be when Tarr notices we're missing, and I want as much of a headstart as possible. We've got the supplies in our room; the mounts are the ones he was pointing at out in the stable -- we're switching out from the ones we rode here."

Ada nodded. "Alright. And how will he know where we're going? Will he know?"
